Talk:Lor Wilson

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

Name change[[edit source]]

I just wanted to note on the talk page as well that this page is using a deadname, according to their IMDB profile, they are now called Lor Wilson. Liria10 14:56, October 23, 2019 (UTC)

Is Lor not just short for Lauren? -- Saxon (✉️) 15:36, October 23, 2019 (UTC)
I can find nothing else but IMDB saying this. Furthermore, IMDB is not legitimate enough to use as source material. If this is said somewhere else, use that. :) --DCLM 15:44, October 23, 2019 (UTC)
I actually think user Jack Saxon is right. I found a difffent (I think, most likely) Lauren Wilson on Twitter whose username is "Lauren Wilson @lorwilsonn" which leads me to think Lor is just a nickname or shortened version. --DCLM 16:01, October 23, 2019 (UTC)
According to their twitter page (I'm not sure if I should link it here or not, as I stumbled upon it via an unrelated doctor who thread), they are non-binary, and seem to be going by Lor. I agree that Lor can be used as a shortened version of Lauren, however, in this case, it seems to be their name, especially as IMDB corroborates what I found on Twitter, which is why I opened this discussion in accordance with T:ACTOR. Liria10 16:55, October 23, 2019 (UTC)
You can indeed link it here, as IMDB, as I said, is not really a legitimate source for any info on the Wikia. --DCLM 17:09, October 23, 2019 (UTC)
Alright; their username is @lozzers, and they've mentionned a few times playing Lucy Catwright (I'll be honest, I just searched their usernames + doctor who and found plenty of evidence) and talk openly about being trans as well. I hope that is sufficient evidence? Liria10 17:14, October 23, 2019 (UTC)
Checking it now. :) Also, if Lor is indeed the name used, then there's not much against. But if Lauren is still used, then we can't change. --DCLM 17:19, October 23, 2019 (UTC)
Just looked and all I could find was an abandoned profile with only one tweet. Could you perhaps copy a link and put in here? --DCLM 17:24, October 23, 2019 (UTC)
Ooops, my bad, I mispelled that. https://twitter.com/lozerrs here you go! Liria10 17:44, October 23, 2019 (UTC)
Just went through the last two years of tweets made by the account, and it does seem seem legit to me. But can we be sure that there has been a legal name change? "Lor" could still just have be used as nickname/short. --DCLM 18:12, October 23, 2019 (UTC)
T:ACTOR#Crediting trans people says "in all cases". Legal name change not strictly required; depending on where you live, such things take time.

Okay. I have no further arguments then. :) --DCLM 18:42, October 23, 2019 (UTC)

Okay, I've looked into the evidence in question. It would seem, practically speaking without a shadow of doubt, to be them running the Twitter. Their Twitter bio specifies they/them pronouns, and their name is given as Lor. In all (non-DWU) credits since 2017, in fact, they have been credited with the name Lor Wilson. This more than meets the requirements of T:ACTOR. I'm hence renaming the page in accordance with that policy.

WHAT?[[edit source]]

Cornell’s minisode uses their deadname? How... can nobody, including they, have stopped this? What is going on here? I feel this needs to be looked into further, something fishy’s going on. God, can’t imagine how sick to my stomach I’d feel if that happened to me. Distressing stuff. I don’t really know what I’m actually proposing specially honestly but I feel this should at least be... noteworthy. Feels significant, and not in a good way. I doubt that any malice has been had. At worst it's some miscommunication with whoever wrote down the credits for the minisode. But also, if you'll look at the investigation above we never actually got a statement from Wilson that they indeed changed names. It's perfectly imaginable that Wilson chooses to usually go by the nickname "Lor", but doesn't actually consider the longer original form a "deadname" in the "I no longer recognise this moniker as describing me" sense. Who knows? Since much was made (in said earlier investigation) of Wilson's ownership of a Twitter blog, (tactfully) asking them about it could probably cut the gordian knot, if anyone here has a Twitter account.
Though if, as per earlier findings, they're mostly credited as "Lor Wilson" these days, then whether or not the other name is a deadname, I do believe T:ACTORS still suggests the page should stay where it currently is. -Scrooge MacDuck 01:41, April 27, 2020 (UTC)
Completely agree with Scrooge, not all non-binary people are as strict with their chosen names (or even pronouns) as others. The only non-binary person I know in real life will answer to their original name or chosen name exactly the same, with no bitter reaction to those who continue to use the former. I don't think its our place to kick up a stink on their behalf, and I believe the original post was a little excessive due to the fact that we know so little. Xx-connor-xX 01:47, April 27, 2020 (UTC)
I did think that but I don’t have an account. I really hope that’s the case. We should probably check because this page is inaccurately named and implies inaccurate information if so. That’s... an issue. Seems unlikely though as this is the ONLY time they’ve been credited as the other name in anything for years. Horrible. Hate how we still have to deal with this and can’t really do anything about it if we want cis people to like us. And a lot of only ‘don’t mind’ for that reason as well, just FYI. NightmareofEden 01:49, April 27, 2020 (UTC)
Please do not try to speak for Lor Wilson themself. If they personally agreed to the "Lauren Wilson" credit, it may be no different to Russell Enoch continuing to use "William Russell" for Doctor Who related productions even now. 180.150.38.124talk to me 12:38, 29 May 2022 (UTC)
