Wedding protocol[[edit source]]

Ten's marriage to Queen Elizabeth is referenced in the Shakespeare episode but not seen until Day of the Doctor. However, it was not a valid wedding. A wedding requires both spouses-to-be, an officiant, and two witnesses. While it appeared that there were three witnesses, two were actually other incarnations of the Doctor, and so the only witness was Clara Oswald. 208.71.235.4talk to me 17:25, November 11, 2014 (UTC)

Please provide in-universe evidence for these legal requirements.--Skittles the hog - talk 18:00, November 11, 2014 (UTC)
It's a Church of England requirement, dating back to the time. The CoE was established by Elizabeth's father Henry VIII. You can google the CoE's guidebook for the Clergy. While she could have waived these requirements, there's of course no record of her having done so. She wouldn't have seen the need, not realizing that the two other men were actually her love in different time periods.
Keeping quiet about this was probably how Ten intended to escape the marriage trap he'd placed himself into. Nobody in the episode actually comes out and says it's not a valid marriage, but by the law then and now it isn't valid. It's also just the kind of Easter Egg that Moffat loves to stick into his stories. 71.56.127.247talk to me 20:08, September 21, 2015 (UTC)
She was the queen, she could do what she wanted! Even if that was the standard in those days, like I said, she was the queen and could do as she chose if she wanted to ignore those rules, just look at her dad, henry eighth. When the church told him he couldnt divorce one of his wives, he made his own church so he could! Lesson here-don't mess with the royals!--Coop3 21:13, May 17, 2015 (UTC)
