Talk:Winnie the Pooh (fictional character)

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

Rename[[edit source]]

Apparently the page has been renamed to add "fictional" to the dab, which I think is entirely unnecessary, since "(character)" gets the point across just fine without declaring that the character's always fiction (which may not be the case). Cookieboy 2005 ☎ 16:05, 20 April 2024 (UTC)

We really should standardise the dab term. IMO, however, I prefer "(fictional character)", as people could assume "character" refers to, well, characters in Doctor Who. 16:34, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
Well, they are still "characters", just ones which are portrayed as fictional - this dab term fails as soon as a character is portrayed as a real person. Cookieboy 2005 ☎ 16:39, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
(It is worth noting that Our Finest Gifts We Bring [+]Loading...["Our Finest Gifts We Bring (short story)"] features Winnie the Pooh as an actual character, so the "fictional" bit is rather inaccurate either way.) Aquanafrahudy πŸ“’ πŸ–ŠοΈ 17:15, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
I thought that was the case, I just haven't finished the book yet. Cookieboy 2005 ☎ 17:18, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
Might it just be easier to move this page to Winnie the Pooh and Winnie the Pooh to Winnie the Pooh (series)? Given that the series is named after the character, after all. 17:35, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
"(series)" is an out-of-universe dab term. Aquanafrahudy πŸ“’ πŸ–ŠοΈ 17:37, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
It's been used on in-universe pages. E.g., Sherlock Holmes (series). 17:46, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
I don't think it ought to've been. Aquanafrahudy πŸ“’ πŸ–ŠοΈ 17:47, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
Well to be fair we do need a dab term for in-universe series. And "(series)" is used. Having Sherlock Holmes for the series and Sherlock Holmes (character) for the character is silly.
And if T:DAB IU is ever invoked, we can do "(in-universe series)". 17:49, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
I think "(in-universe series)" is probably the best avenue in both cases. Aquanafrahudy πŸ“’ πŸ–ŠοΈ 17:51, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
It currently doesn’t apply as we don't have an out-of-universe series page. If we get that page, then, and only then, can "(in-universe series)" be used as it isn't meant to just be used on anything, considering the Wiki's perspective is in-universe after all. 17:57, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
What I mean is, we can give them the "(in-universe series)" dab in anticipation of an out-of universe series page, which in both cases, as far as I can tell, is within policy to be created. Aquanafrahudy πŸ“’ πŸ–ŠοΈ 18:04, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
Yeah I do believe one is warranted now, but I'm talking in terms of the policy in general. 18:06, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
Surely they should both be warranted? Aquanafrahudy πŸ“’ πŸ–ŠοΈ 18:14, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
