Template talk:Merge
Question[[edit]]
Is this template requesting an actual merge of page's histories or just information?
By how this has been worded I'm not entirely clear on whether this is just about merging/moving information from one article to another and deleting one or the other. Or is this template about requesting an actual merger of pages? Merging this involves copying and moving the info around, deleting, moving and restoring the two pages in order to merge the histories. --Tangerineduel 18:01, May 17, 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry, didn't see there was a question here until now. It's about requesting a formal merger, such as only an admin can do. So the latter. One wouldn't really need a tag requesting the former type of merger, cause one could do that sorta thing without admin help. CzechOut ☎ | ✍ 17:18, December 24, 2010 (UTC)
Merger rationale[[edit]]
Where is this meant to go? Following the usage instructions just gives the "the editor who placed this failed..." info. --Tangerineduel 16:25, December 28, 2010 (UTC)
Clarifying use[[edit]]
Can't figure out how to edit the instructions, so I'll just add here:
The merge tag should only be put on one page, not both. A reason/rationale for the merge should be given, if not in the tag, then on the talk page. Lack of a rationale can result in the merge tag being removed. Shambala108 ☎ 23:01, June 16, 2019 (UTC)
Image?[[edit]]
This seems to be one of the only templates that lacks an image. Maybe the Watcher merging with the Fourth Doctor would be an appropriate one? WaltK ☎ 05:39, June 30, 2020 (UTC)
