The Crimson Field
The Crimson Field was a show on BBC America. Having watched this show, Gabby Gonzalez was able to cook up a persuasive explanation on how she and the Tenth Doctor found themselves in a German trench in the middle of the Battle of the Somme in France in July 1916. She introduced herself as "Nurse Gonzalez" and the Doctor as "Dr Strange". According to her story, they were on their way to a British field hospital behind the lines to report to "Lieutenant Colonel Brooks" when their car hit a bomb-crater and went off the road. It is not stated in the comic story, but the show is about a World War I hospital in France, providing plenty of parallels to Gabby and the Doctor's situation.
In the real world, actors who have appeared in both The Crimson Field and the DWU include Rupert Graves, Hermione Norris, Suranne Jones, Kerry Fox and Alex Wyndham
