The Eighth Doctor and Companions was the first feature in The Eighth Doctor Sourcebook, giving players characters from the Doctor's episodes to play as. The features explained their backstories, and gave several original details.

- The Time War was over by the end of the Seventh Doctor's life with the Master's trial, but the Catalyst changed time to restart it, giving the Eighth Doctor amnesia.
- The Seventh Doctor was given great weapons by the Time Lords, and used them against their enemies in the Time War.
- Charley, C'rizz, Lucie, Tamsin, and Molly are mentioned, but their natures are unclear.
- Grace Holloway and Chang Lee may be immortal fixed points in time.
- Cass was born in the Earth Empire.
- In timelines where the Time War had less influence, Cass's spirit of adventure led her to joining the Eighth Doctor as a companion. However, as her era got more grim, she became more cynical until the events of the Eighth Doctor's regeneration.
