The Secret Government
The Secret Government, subtitled An investigation of the corruption at the heart of America, was a book by Jack Stimson, published sometime around the turn of the 21st century. The Fourth Doctor produced it from his pocket to show to Jessica Willamy in her darkest hour, when she was on the verge of committing suicide because the Combine had finally found her in her remote New England home. It proved to her not only that the Combine were real, and not a paranoid delusion she had conjured up over the decades, but also that the Doctor really was, as she had put it in her youth, "one of us" — someone who had sympathy with the counterculture movement of the 1960s — and therefore trustworthy. It helped to convince Jessica to abort her suicide, get in the TARDIS and begin her life anew. (PROSE: Wonderland)
