It is extremely out of character for the Doctor to fall in love with a complete stranger they've just met. The whole relationship and dialogue seemed rushed. This complete stranger was almost ready to kill them and the Doctor has no concern about that? I can't help but feel if this were a heteronormative storyline, where a male Doctor was immediately falling in love with a female Rogue or vice versa, there would be a lot more criticism of it (and quite rightly). It just feels like such a waste and really out of place for this to be the first depiction of a relationship outside of that.
- River Song.
- The Doctor does not fall in love with her in their first meeting (from his point of view), no? It takes until Series 6 before we even see them kiss.
- There is a heteronormative story where the Doctor quickly falls in love with a female stranger: The Girl in the Fireplace (TV story).
- It seems more that she was the one to fall in love with the Doctor, given that Reinette had practically known the Doctor her whole life. The Doctor was not falling love within the first five minutes of their meeting.
- ”I just snogged Madame du Pompadour!” - Tenth Doctor, after his second meeting with her. She may feel stronger about him, but he’s definitely onboard with the romance from pretty early on.
