Tommy fought in World War I. He had been one of a group of six who had joined up in search of action and adventure along with Johnny, Rex, Archie, James and the private. Johnny and Rex were lost on the first disastrous push, Archie was killed by the constant mixture of mud and death underfoot, while James was killed by shrapnel twelve months into the war. Ultimately, a week short of sixteen months into the war, Tommy was killed by a German bullet, leaving the private as the sole survivor of their group. (PROSE: Front Line)
