A lot of people die during Doctor Who. It's part of the lore of Doctor Who, but there's no actual data on how many people die, who kills them, etc, etc.
As such, I'm starting a personal project to document this information on the Tardis Data Core, using the Semantic Mediawiki functionality within the wiki. Semantic Mediawiki would allow us to answer the question "Which Doctor's seen the most characters die?" "Which bad guy kills the most extras onscreen?"
This isn't an official project yet. I'm starting with Bad Wolf (TV story) because that's the story I'm currently watching, and I'll be working forward from that. If you're interested, let me know!
Current "Casualty Project" Standard[[edit] | [edit source]]
Each character page should have an "Obituary" page. It contains a table showing a set of property = values.
Killed by[[edit] | [edit source]]
The "Killed by" key shows who is eventually responsible for the death of a character. If the character is hit by The Master's Laser Screwdriver, the the value of the "Killed by" key is "The Master".
Died in year[[edit] | [edit source]]
The "Died in year" key gives the most accurate year available for when the character dies.
Died with Doctor[[edit] | [edit source]]
The "Died with Doctor" key is a link to the specific Doctor who's episode contains the character's death. If the character dies in the episode Bad Wolf (TV story) with the Ninth Doctor, then "Died with Doctor" should be Ninth Doctor.
Character type[[edit] | [edit source]]
"Character death type" is from this list:
- Extra
- Soldier
- Semi-Companion
- Companion
An Extra is any character who appears on the screen but does not participate much in the story.
A Soldier is any character who would otherwise be considered an Extra but who serves in an army. UNIT and The Church are military organizations, and characters who die in and out of uniform should be flagged as both Soldier and Extra.
A Semi-Companion is any named character who is directly involved in the Doctor's adventures. Father Octavian is an example of a character who is more than an Extra, but isn't quite a Companion.
A Companion is any character who participates in multiple adventure with the Doctor, official or unofficial.
Note that multiple Character Types can be listed.
