We've got a couple of important quirks for a Wikia wiki, so let's get them out of the way first.
British English, please
We generally use British English round these parts, so if you're American, please be sure you set your spell checker to BrEng, and take a gander at our spelling cheat card.
Spoilers aren't cool
We have a strict definition of "spoiler" that you may find a bit unusual. Basically, a spoiler, to us, is anything that comes from a story which has not been released yet. So, even if you've got some info from a BBC press release or official trailer, it basically can't be referenced here. In other words, you gotta wait until the episode has finished its premiere broadcast to start editing about its contents. Please check the spoiler policy for more details.

Vandalism edit

Hi! I appreciate your reverting of vandalism at Mickey Smith, but I do have a request. If you have to do so again, all you have to do is leave an edit summary stating that you are reverting vandalism (as you did on the Mickey Smith page). There is no need to leave a message on the offender's talk page for two important reasons: 1. it draws more attention to the vandalism, and 2. anonymous users don't get notifications when their talk pages are edited, so the offender will most likely never get your message.

Christmas cheer

Happy holidays!

As this fiftieth anniversary year comes to a close, we here at Tardis just want to thank you for being a part of our community — even if you haven't edited here in a while. If you have edited with us this year, then thanks for all your hard work.

This year has seen an impressive amount of growth. We've added about 11,000 pages this year, which is frankly incredible for a wiki this big. November was predictably one of the busiest months we've ever had: over 500 unique editors pitched in. It was the highest number of editors in wiki history for a year in which only one programme in the DWU was active. And our viewing stats have been through the roof. We've averaged well over 2 million page views each week for the last two months, with some weeks seeing over 4 million views!

We've received an unprecedented level of support from Wikia Staff, resulting in all sorts of new goodies and productive new relationships. And we've recently decided to lift almost every block we've ever made so as to allow most everyone a second chance to be part of our community.

2014 promises to build on this year's foundations, especially since we've got a full, unbroken series coming up — something that hasn't happened since 2011. We hope you'll stick with us — or return to the Tardis — so that you can be a part of the fun!

Tele-snap of Camfield's Fairy Milk Chocolate

I'm looking for screenshots to illustrate two pages I recently created for TARDIS Data Core: Imperial and Phil Madison.

As you very kindly supplied the tele-snap for another of my created pages, Camfield's Fairy Milk Chocolate, and having heard you have quite the collection where screenshots etc. are concerned, do you happen to have images of:

• the 100 Imperials coin flipped by Adric in Warriors' Gate,

and

• the robotised Phil Madison, as played by Peter Badger in The Dalek Invasion of Earth?

If so, please feel free to add these to the respective pages next time you're on TARDIS Data Core. This would be greatly appreciated.

Just thought I'd drop you a line to thank you for adding the image to Phil Madison; the page looks much better now.

With regard to Imperial, don't worry about the low quality image of the 100 Imperials coin, as this is better than nothing. Thanks also for putting me right about it being Aldo who flipped this particular piece of currency in Warriors' Gate part one. It just goes to show how long it's been since I watched the story! :-) Anyway, I've now revised the page accordingly and added the image of the coin.

Leaving messages on other users' talk pages

Hi! I'm not sure exactly how to put this, but you need to moderate your tone when you leave messages on other users' talk pages. I haven't really felt it necessary to say anything until tonight, when you left a message at User talk:BananaClownMan about Tardis:Spoiler policy. To the uninitiated user, you come off sounding like an admin. There was no need for you to mention that he's been warned before; all that is necessary is to point the user to the policy page(s) in question, and if there is a problem, then let an admin know so they can deal with it.

Please, when leaving a message on other users' talk pages, refrain from using words like "warning", "enforce", or anything else that implies you have the ability to enforce policy on this wiki. BF Production Codes

Hi! My sources for the majority of the varied production codes I have added are form the actual physical releases themselves, and I can advise you that the production code listed on Big Finish's website for the release you mention is, as admitted by the company themself, a mistake (one of many, as the information on releases found there is riddled with errors). However, all releases from January 2013 onwards are given no placement code on the release or website, but through contact with producers and authors the detailed production codes are given. Note that numerous releases since have no production code (the Locum Doctors trilogy, Trial of the Valeyard, various box sets and special releases), as Big Finish has now ceased making evident any confirmed placement. Death in Heaven

Hello PicassoAndPringles, Why did you delete my added information in Death In Heaven? It read: "Missy is revealed to have been The Master, a man, in her last incarnation something The Doctor has said happens on occasion when he spoke of The Timelord The Corsair who came back as a woman "a couple of times." (TV: The Doctor's Wife)" This is accurate information and also shows the continuity of the show. If you watch The Doctor's Wife you will hear the doctor make the statement that The Corsair was a fantastic bloke who never felt quite himself, or herself a couple of times, until he got his tattoo of a snake. These lines are said right at the start of the show when The Doctor receives "mail" in the form of a glowing white box. Please tell me what your problem is with this accurate information. Thank you. Titan Back-up Comics

Hey, I just wanted to tell you that we are currently sending down a final vote on the Titan back-up comics down at Thread:177099. You seemed to have a pretty strong opinion on the issue, so I just wanted to make sure that you knew that the vote was happening. The polls currently tally to three votes for the back-up strips being valid and five for them being invalid. All votes have gone towards making the WeLoveTITANS comics invalid. Timeline

Thanks for the links. I will get back to this issue after studying them. By the way, I completely agree that stating that "A Doctor's Tale" follows "An Unearthly Child" is silly. In some cases, Big Finish states the timeline placement explicitly in the "Behind the Scenes" tab, which might help avoid speculation. Another note before I have information policy-wise: in "A Doctor's Tale" the events of the crusade are not only mentioned but used for plot development. Ian is accepted as equal by the nobility and clergy because he is knighted: he is Sir Ian of Jaffa. This happened in "The Crusade," which is why, in my mind, it is important. Okay, so my first impression is that my edits did not, in fact, violate the old decision sited in Forum:Timeline sections on pages. It has been decided that If the story's timeline is actually certain enough and noteworthy enough, then mention of it will be made in the lead or story notes section. And there were pages with such information in the lead section, e.g., Blood of the Daleks.

I was also always mentioning timeline information in the lead section. I will be happy to additionally provide the reasoning behind it as was requested by some participants in that forum. I'll have to think how to do it in a spoiler-free way though. But if Voord is in the title of the story, I guess it is not really a spoiler to mention a previous encounter with them.

What do you think? Should I go ahead and reinstate important cases or should we open a new discussion? In the latter case, perhaps, you could start it as you are have more experience with the forum and it would be easier for you to involve the right people.Amorkuz ☎ 18:00, October 24, 2015 (UTC)

Hmm... Not sure how you leave replies rather than another paragraph. But anyways... It appears that we essentially agree on the principle of things. In fact, what you described as reasonable leads was exactly along the lines of what I had in mind as "reasoning behind" I mentioned above. I suspect that where we might differ is in the definition of "noteworthy" ("certainty" is quite clear I think: as in not based on speculation but on actual quotes). I half suspect that you might have been spooked by my placement of The Bounty of Ceres after The Time Meddler, which appears to be a trivial placement after the first Steven's serial. But even that is plot related: the reason the TARDIS crew had to leave the ship in The Bounty of Ceres and could not return to it until the very end is the Doctor's experiments with the Relative Dimensional Stabiliser that he pilfered from the Monk's TARDIS.

There were also examples of trivial placements among the ones you've deleted: all 2nd Doctor's Early Adventures are completely nondescript in this respect (so far). Here I completely agree with you: there is no point having them if it has been decided that such information should be useful rather than complete. Another example of placement I am not planning to restore is a throwaway mention of Marco Polo in The Alchemists.

As I was saying, I'm adding information that I would have found useful myself in determining what to listen to next. That is my definition of "noteworthy." Given that I am far from the being the most devoted fan, I suspect that there are other people like me out there, who prefer to watch the relevant classic episodes before listening to a Big Finish story. Or, more importantly and less obviously, listen to the relevant stories from other ranges.

I hope that the second version of my edits will be more obviously useful. Congrats on the admin nomination, by the way.

IV Magda vs. 1V Magda

Hey P&P! Just wanted to make a quick enquiry about some of your recent(ish) edits. I noted a whole back that you fixed a link on 7's page from "Magda" to the more accurate 1V Magda. However, I later spotted the fact that the page for The Prisoner's Dilemma credits the character as IV Magda. Given the fact that the sum total of references on this wiki to the roguish Zinc's wife is three, and that I have not listened to Dilemma for quite a while, I thought I'd ask here to see if my dilemma could be simply solved.

Exact release dates

I've noticed you have removed an erroneous release day of the month on The Yes Men (audio story). Some of the audio releases have both month and day (especially the recent ones), while others only have the month. I was wondering what is preferable? In/Out Universe

Thanks for explaining. And sorry that I will have to continue relying on your (and other admins') divine interventions. Finding relevant excerpts of the policy is, unfortunately, simply not an efficient use of time. I made an experiment and, after you started deleting images, tried to find the relevant policy based on your comments: 30 minutes knowing what I was searching for. When I don't know the policy exists in advance, I can spend hours trying to find it instead of wikifying.

Regarding what needs to be done, I can give you the facts on the ground and hope that you could tell me if there is a policy for such cases. Your suspicions were correct about the Weltausstellung 1873 Wien (in a way, it's a happy coincidence that we started discussing this topic and can now fix the less obvious errors). This name, which is the correct English name according to Wikipedia, is never used in the audio. Unfortunately, neither is its English translation, "World Exposition 1873 Vienna." Even the generic terms used for the series of these event, which are "World's fair," "world fair," "world exposition" or "universal exposition" are not used (incidentally, I know at least one other audio about another of these world fairs, Other Lives. The term most commonly used in the audio is "Vienna Exposition." I'm guessing this might be the correct article name. (And I have since learned how to make a Wikipedia infobox with a name different from the name of the article.)

But this is not the only thing that may need to be changed now that we're talking. Vienna Ring Road is invariably called by its German name "Ringstraße" in the audio.

And while we're discussing names, I was using Wikipedia names as guidelines. So the "Vienna" part of Stephansplatz, Vienna is there because of Wikipedia. Now, this is not, strictly speaking, out-of-universe: they call it "Stephansplatz" and they acknowledge that they are in Vienna. But if Wikipedia names are not relevant even for historical real-world phenomena according to the policy, as I you may well tell me, then perhaps "Stephansplatz" would be a more reasonable name. (I believe the rational in Wikipedia is that there is a square with the same name in another city (Hamburg?), which is not (yet) relevant in-universe. On the other hand, maybe keeping "Vienna" is good for future proofing.) Amorkuz ☎ 22:38, December 13, 2015 (UTC)

No, there are no others: I checked all the pages I've created and will try to implement the in-universe perspective in the pages I will create from now on. Two more things:

Full disclosure for "Ringstraße," which may affect the naming. This is the correct Austrian German spelling. However, there is an alternative spelling that only uses letter present in English, "Ringstrasse." The connection between "ß" and "ss" is quite strong (stronger even than between "ö" and "oe"): 1) the only correct capitalized version of the word is "RINGSTRASSE" in all variants of German because the letter ß does not have an uppercase version; 2) there are variants of German where ß is not used: for instance, in Swiss German, this would be written "Ringstrasse." But all the action in the audio happens in Austria (even the references to Villa Diodati don't change this as that is in the French-speaking part of Switzerland). Unfortunately, there is no written material from the producer to guide us, at least not available to me.

While you're spending your time on me anyway, I'd allow myself to ask about the name I will soon create. There is another character similar to Count Larisch (soon to be renamed to Larisch thanks to the help from Skittles the Hog), i.e., not present in the play but mentioned by name, Dieter Wallmann (he is another patron of Stahlbaum and the first "eyeless murder on Ringstraße"). My problem with him is that it is not clear what the correct spelling of his last name is: it could be Walman or Walmann. I did some Google search and Wallmann seems more prevalent, but this is not sourced in-universe. What is the procedure in such cases? Which name should I use? I did, however, find a marvelous site that details the contents of the CD packing, which allows me to add the missing cast information. The reason I mention this is, actually, not to boast. The packing features some additional illustrations, including a pencil drawing of a Cyberman. So my question is: are CD package contents considered in-universe or out-of-universe? Series disambiguation

Hey P&P. Just enquiring as to whether our auto-dabbing policy applies in any way to series pages. The current situation is extremely variable, but series articles are (largely) only given disambiguated titles when they require them (although The New Adventures of Bernice Summerfield is strangely given both individual anthology pages and a series page, creating a semi-necessity rather than adapting to a true issue). Should new series pages automatically be given dab terms when created? If so, should we be working to disambiguate all series pages? And additionally, should individual "volume (x)" or "series (x)" pages be created for all series? TNAoBS does so, perhaps due to the fact that volumes are given individual titles, but the same could be said of Gallifrey's latter box set releases.

Misunderstanding

There has been a terrible misunderstanding, every time I upload an image to the Tardis, I add a license, whether it's a BBC screenshot or not but it seems it never shows. I definitely wasn't ignoring you P&P, I do think a 3 day block wasn't necessary but you're the admin. Very sorry, I've decided not to upload images here anymore as it won't work.
