Customisationedit source

Please see Forum:Hypercube message. Also, Special:AllMessages is your friend.

The easiest way to figure out how we do anything with system messages is this:
 1. Go to Special:AllMessages
 2. Tick Modified
 3. Make sure language is set to English
 4. Choose to show 500 items per page (not 5000; the system will freak)
 5. use your browser's find feature to search for a portion of the message. In your case, you're interested in the word "Rassilon".
 6. flip through to the next 500 pages as necessary, repeating step 5.

Super easy!

Templatesedit source

Please create templates as sub-pages of your user page not as part of the general wiki. Thanks. --Tangerineduel / talk 14:28, December 21, 2011 (UTC)

It follows how nearly all the other template signatures are made. It is User:Randomno/sig. What's wrong about that? It's a subpage in a user namespace. And it's my signature, why can't I use that template? It messes it up without it.

Random? No. Admin on the Simpsons Wiki. Say something.

Because Template:Explain is created in the wiki's namespace and it's being used for your signature. All other template signatures exist as subpages of the user's. Create Template:Explain as a subpage of your userpage. See Help:Signatures for more information on using a template in your signature. --Tangerineduel / talk 14:57, December 21, 2011 (UTC)
The new signature page is locked... I'm gonna have to use my simple sig for now. Randomno. If you're viewing this, I've either been an idiot, or I'm on a wiki that I will barely ever edit. 15:00, December 21, 2011 (UTC)
Your sig temp was actually in the template namespace (template:user:Randomno/sig), not the user namespace. I've moved it to the user ns, where it resides at user:Randomno/sig. Insert that link into your Special:Preferences, and it'll work fine. I've also made a few minor changes to it, which I've annotated in the history. There were a couple of ways in which it didn't comply with tardis:signature policy. I also didn't see why you were using explain at all; it could be styled the same way without reference to a template. (I didn't look carefully at what explain was doing, though. May have got it wrong. If it was more of a tooltip thing that displayed on mouseover, examine user:czechOut/Sig for proper non-template coding.)
You should also be aware that your timestamp coding totally failed. You were stamping the same time everywhere. Until you've read and completely understand Help:Signatures, the easiest solution is just to use four tildes and let the timestamp be added, unstyled, by the system. An accurate timestamp is essential to a signature.

Template:Explain is a bit like <font color="#ffffff" title="Talk to me">☎</font> on your signature page. If you hover over the link it has a message. Community Wikia haven't said anything about it (I use exactly the same template on there). By the way, my signature page is now locked, so I can't update anything. Randomno. If you're viewing this, I've either been an idiot, or I'm on an wiki that I will barely ever edit. 15:42, December 21, 2011 (UTC)
User:Randomno/sig is now unlocked. Sorry 'bout that. Didn't realise it had been locked prior to the move, which meant it retained that setting afterward.
Yes, going back through the history, explain is simply automating the title variable. Please just use "title=" here. There's no advantage to the template.
Note, too, that Community Wikia is a separate entity and has no bearing on our administration. Community is far less concerned with how people edit their space, because it's kind of a big sandbox. Theirs is not a content wiki, so much as one big message board. We care here about order, not least because a maintenance bot runs round the clock which depends on things being in their proper place. We also have several admin who delete on the basis of how "used" things are -- which would likely mean your template would have a lifespan of at most a month. Moreover, we're mindful of reducing server load, which is why we care about limiting relatively useless templates like explain.

p.s. I can't believe that your original template's timestamp works, even at Community. You might want to double check that separate instances leave unique timestamps.

Monobookedit source

Skins aren't developed on this site, but another one, to minimise user inconvenience. Also, not all skin elements are on MediaWiki:Monobook.css. There's therefore no relationship between the last edit of Monobook.css and whether the skin is "complete". The "Monobook is under construction" message is still valid.

I don't understand that very much, but okay. Random? No. Admin on the Simpsons Wiki. Say something. 20:16, February 24, 2012 (UTC)

Christmas cheeredit source

Happy holidays!

As this fiftieth anniversary year comes to a close, we here at Tardis just want to thank you for being a part of our community — even if you haven't edited here in a while. If you have edited with us this year, then thanks for all your hard work.

This year has seen an impressive amount of growth. We've added about 11,000 pages this year, which is frankly incredible for a wiki this big. November was predictably one of the busiest months we've ever had: over 500 unique editors pitched in. It was the highest number of editors in wiki history for a year in which only one programme in the DWU was active. And our viewing stats have been through the roof. We've averaged well over 2 million page views each week for the last two months, with some weeks seeing over 4 million views!

We've received an unprecedented level of support from Wikia Staff, resulting in all sorts of new goodies and productive new relationships. And we've recently decided to lift almost every block we've ever made so as to allow most everyone a second chance to be part of our community.

2014 promises to build on this year's foundations, especially since we've got a full, unbroken series coming up — something that hasn't happened since 2011. We hope you'll stick with us — or return to the Tardis — so that you can be a part of the fun!
