Mrs Vermas was the grandmother of Rani Chandra and the mother of Gita Chandra.

In the 1960s, her family moved from India to England. They settled in Nottingham. From there, the family spread across the country. (PROSE: Day of the Clown)

When her husband Ram Vermas died, she washed everything from curtains to furniture and the walls. It took her days to do so and when she stopped she started crying. (PROSE: Death of the Doctor) Gita reacted in a similar way to his death. (TV: Death of the Doctor)
