Hero

The Third Doctor told Omega that he had always known of him and honoured him as the greatest hero of his people, the Time Lords. However, Omega, then trapped in the anti-matter universe, was not content be a hero, raging that he should have been a god. (TV: The Three Doctors) For the War Doctor's part in the Last Great Time War, the Doctor was regarded as a war hero on Gallifrey, (TV: Hell Bent) much to the discomfort of the Tenth Doctor. Father Octavian told the Eleventh Doctor that River Song killed a "good man" who was "a hero to many." Unbeknownst to the Doctor at the time, Octavian was referring to him. (TV: Flesh and Stone) In an attempt to make Amy Pond lose faith in him and thus save her from the Minotaur, the Doctor claimed that he was not a hero but "just a mad man in a box." Clara Oswald, companion of the Eleventh Doctor, identified the Tenth Doctor as "the hero" to the War Doctor's warrior and her Doctor, "the doctor". She went on to say that "any old idiot [could] be a hero." (TV: The Day of the Doctor)

The Twelfth Doctor once exclaimed that he was not a hero, but rather an "idiot with a box and a screwdriver". (TV: Death in Heaven) When trying to convince Amy Pond to lose her faith in him, in order to protect her from the Minotaur, the Eleventh Doctor claimed not to be a hero, saying "it's time we saw each other as we really are". No matter how many planets he had saved, the Twelfth Doctor was acutely aware that he had also caused so much damage. He regretted, for instance, leading the Mandragora Helix to Italy, and the Family of Blood to England. In those times, the Doctor was left to clean up messes he had been responsible for. Giftan history logs spoke of an ancient Earth hero known as Avocado Pear. In honour of Earthlings Graham O'Brien and Ryan Sinclair, who helped deliver his baby, Yoss Inkl named his child Avocado.
