Wilhelm Rozycki
Pilot Officer Wilhelm Rozycki was a pilot in the Polish Air Force during World War II. After Nazi Germany conquered Poland in September 1939, Rozycki was among a number of Poles which fled mainland Europe and made it to Great Britain to aid the United Kingdom in the war effort.
On 27 August 1940, during the Battle of Britain, the Eighth Doctor recruited Rozycki and his colleague, Jan Ostowicz, to investigate unusual losses suffered by the Royal Air Force, as requested by Winston Churchill. Rozycki and Liv Chenka were paired together in Rozycki's aircraft. They were abducted by the Heliyon during the aerial search. Although presumed dead, they escaped via a parachute jump with knowledge of the Heliyon activity.
Rozycki fought together with other Allied pilots to repel the Heliyon ship's attack on London. The Poles' performance impressed the British and they were allowed to engage the Luftwaffe starting on 28 August. However, that night, Rozycki's plane was shot down and he was killed.
Ostowicz informed the Doctor and Liv about his fate, trying to find comfort in the fact that Rozycki died fighting for a cause he believed in. Liv was shaken by his death. (AUDIO: Their Finest Hour)
