The day of the Cleansing was 19 July 1843. (PROSE: Reckless Engineering)

On 23 October, in Trafalgar Square, the finishing touches were being put to Nelson's Column. The Fifth Doctor and his companions Nyssa and Tegan Jovanka found the contractors Samuel Morton Peto and Thomas Grissell had been possessed by Sevakrill. He appealed to their human selves to break free and spent the next two weeks disposing of a missile they had placed inside the column by lowering it into the ground. By this time, the statue of Horatio Nelson was being added to its plinth. Tegan commented that it was more "tourist friendly" in 1982. (PROSE: The Lions of Trafalgar)

The First Doctor and Susan Foreman met Siger Holmes in India. Holmes told them about a temple whose priests were allegedly able to chant open a gateway to another mysterious world. In a later adventure, the Seventh Doctor learned that this other world was the planet Ry'leh. (PROSE: All-Consuming Fire)
