:Not quite, actually. Per T:DAB OTHER, characters from other realities get dabbed by the name for their universe/reality, rather than the story in which they first appeared. This is because, often, alternate universe characters are introduced in the same story as their main universe counterpart. Not for any other reasons. But (Unbound Universe) probably isn't a good dab term, as there are multiple. Hopefully, a new name can be thought of. 05:27, December 22, 2016 (UTC)

:: Sympathy for the Devil is clearly centered on the fact that the Third Doctor wasn't exiled to the UNIT years and wasn't there to prevent those invasions. The only way David Warner could be playing a later incarnation is if the Third Doctor was exiled somewhere else, never helped UNIT, got in trouble with the time lords again and was then re-exiled to Hong Kong 1997. That sounds utterly and completely illogical and idiotic. just list him as the Third which he is blatantly and obviously intended to be. To do otherwise is sheer pointless stubborn pedantry! In the recent competition to "Write a Benny Adventure," the Doctor (Sympathy for the Devil) is named "Unbound Doctor." Since this character is exploring the "prime" universe, wouldn't it be a good idea to credit him as a canon, separate Doctor?

:# This is out-of-universe information, as I understand it? In almost all cases, we need in-universe confirmation for a name, or at least a credit (as with the War Doctor). :# The other thing is, there are many "Unbound Doctors". Several alternate Doctors came out of the Doctor Who Unbound. :: Since the time of this discussion, it has come to light that at least two in-universe stories refer to the parallel universe which this Doctor comes from as Unbound. While it's true that there are "other" Doctor Who Unbound releases, it's clear that, for Big Finish, this is meant to be recognized as The Unbound Universe, to some degree. This alone suffices for us to have Unbound Universe. I mean, there are a lot of worlds with Petes in it, and even a lot with Pete Tylers, but we clearly refer to a specific one as Pete's World, because there's an in-universe origin to it.
::: That, combined with the fact that Big Finish has referred to him as "the Unbound Doctor" in a semi-official way at least once, despite not being in a credit, now convinces me enough that this page could be at Unbound Doctor (ditto for Unbound Master). Not DWU or alternate reality?edit source

If he met the real doctor in a in-universe story, then why is there a Notdwu tag at the top of the page? Perhaps we should treat him as a Doctor in an alternate universe who crossed timelines? Has anyone listened to the audio? --SOTO 23:25, March 19, 2013 (UTC)

We've already had this discussion (somehwere, in one of the forums) and it was decided that the brief mention that he earned in the 100 story was not enough to bring him into the DWU. If he had actually appeared, that would have been different. OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 01:51, March 20, 2013 (UTC)
That discussion was at Forum:Is the Doctor in Sympathy of the Devil of mainstream continuity because he appeared in The 100 Days of The Doctor? Please do not readmit the myth of David Warner, or this character's appearance in The 100 Days of the Doctor, to this page.

New infobox imageedit source

Now that it has been decided that the doctor from Sympathy for the Devil (audio story) and the one from The Unbound Universe (audio anthology) are the same, may I suggest replacing the infobox image? This one not only is way less fuzzy, but also shows way more clearly the Doctor's face. OncomingStorm12th 02:25, August 28, 2016 (UTC)

Oops, didn't see your messages. I already replaced the images with ones pretty similar to yours. P&P talk contribs 02:44, August 28, 2016 (UTC)
Oh, no problem. They are pretty close to each other anyway. OncomingStorm12th 02:49, August 28, 2016 (UTC)

Renameedit source

I agree this page might need a rename, but I absolutely oppose the use of Unbound to describe the universe which he comes from. Unbound Universe is a very ambiguous term, since there are around five more Doctors from Doctor Who Unbound. I know that Unbound Universe is the title of anthology recently released that made stories with him valid sources, but isn't the any other terms to describe the alternate timeline he comes from? OncomingStorm12th 22:11, November 21, 2016 (UTC)

But then we'll have a problem if another story like The Unbound Universe comes out, only with the Auld Mortality, Full Fathom Five, or Exile Doctors. What do we do then? --Pluto2 (talk) 05:59, November 22, 2016 (UTC)

 1. We do cover this Doctor based on valid sources which tell us he’s from a parallel universe (see T:CANON on why there is no canon).
 2. This is out-of-universe information, as I understand it? In almost all cases, we need in-universe confirmation for a name, or at least a credit (as with the War Doctor). Since the time of this discussion, it has come to light that at least two in-universe stories refer to the parallel universe which this Doctor comes from as Unbound. While it's true that there are "other" Doctor Who Unbound releases, it's clear that, for Big Finish, this is meant to be recognized as The Unbound Universe, to some degree. That, combined with the fact that Big Finish has referred to him as "the Unbound Doctor" in a semi-official way at least once, despite not being in a credit, now convinces me enough that this page could be at Unbound Doctor (ditto for Unbound Master). OncomingStorm12th 01:18, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
