Henrik's Department Store, (PROSE: Meet Rose) often just called Henrik's for brevity, (TV: Rose, The Runaway Bride, AUDIO: New Girl, et al.) or Henrik & Son, (PROSE: The Time Travellers' Almanac) was a London department store on Regent Street that had been operating since at least the early 20th century. (AUDIO: Lost and Found) By 2005, its owner was Rudi Henrik. (PROSE: Rose)
History
In 1948, the six-year-old Polly Wright visited Henrik's with her mother. During the visit, she lost her teddy bear; this was also the first time she ever saw baked beans. (AUDIO: Lost and Found)
Squeak modelled clothes for Henrik's for 'a brief stint', before landing a bit part in a soap. (PROSE: At Childhood's End)
Prior to 1993, Mandy Litherland worked at Henrik's for one summer. (AUDIO: Auld Lang Syne)
According to one account, Rose Tyler began working working at Henrik's Department Store after her mother, Jackie Tyler, called in a favour from an old boyfriend, Geoff Moon, at least six months after Rose broke up with Jimmy Stone. Rose worked her way up from the stock floor to the shop floor, and, while the job admittedly bored her, she felt it necessary "to pay her mother rent and earn her way in the world." (PROSE: Meet Rose) According to another account, Rose began working for Henrik's some months prior to the end of her relationship with Jimmy, semingly getting the job herself. (PROSE: Rose)
Sometime before March 2005 it was infiltrated by Autons who hid in its basement, disguised as storefront dummies, controlled by the Nestene Consciousness via a relay device in the roof. On the night of 4 March, the Ninth Doctor destroyed Henrik's with an explosive device in order to remove the Auton threat. (TV: Rose) On the following night, Elton Pope was carrying a Henrik's shopping bag when the Autons attacked London. (TV: Love & Monsters)
Henrik's was rebuilt later that year. There was a sale on some months after the explosion, prompting Guleraana Arbid to invite Rachel Allan on a shopping spree. (AUDIO: New Girl)
In 2007 the store embarked upon a wide-ranging advertising campaign, with promotional material visible in the street and on the sides of taxis. (TV: The Runaway Bride) This advertising was still on view after Sarah Jane encountered the Gorgon. (TV: Eye of the Gorgon)
Martha Jones bought her favourite jacket from Henrik's. (PROSE: Peacemaker)
At some point in 2011, Donna Noble decided to go on a shopping spree in Henrik's, whilst being careful not to gain any spoilers about her future. (AUDIO: Technophobia)
In 2013, Henrik's had a store in the Hyperville complex. (PROSE: Autonomy)
In 2017, Gwen Cooper bought a jacket in a sale. (AUDIO: Orr)
According to one source, Mr. Socket's electrical shop was located next door. (PROSE: Dr. Ninth)
"Henricks" was a store in the Frenko Bazaar. (COMIC: Bazaar Adventures)
Behind the scenes
Interior and exterior shots of Henrik's were done at House of Fraser on St Mary Street, Cardiff, while the basement location was the University Hospital of Wales.[1]
