Pacific Ocean

The Pacific Ocean was an Earth ocean that bordered North America, South America, Asia and Australia. The island of Salutua was located in the Pacific, as was the port of Honolulu. (PROSE: The Eye of the Giant)

The Pacific Ocean contained ocean trenches. The high pressure in these trenches meant that fish had to be specially adapted in order to survive. The Torchwood Hub had an aquarium containing deep-sea fish from the Pacific Ocean. (PROSE: Slow Decay)

History[[edit] | [edit source]]

A map showing the Ocean to the west of the Americas. (TV: War of the Sontarans)

Early history[[edit] | [edit source]]

In the 9th century, one of the Three Custodians buried some remains of a Dalek on Anuta Island in the South Pacific. (TV: Resolution)

In 1770, the First Doctor, Susan Foreman, Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright met Captain James Cook aboard the Endeavour while it was sailing the Pacific Ocean. 20th century[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Russian city of Vladivostok was located on the Pacific coast. When the Russians built a railway connecting Vladivostok with Europe prior to the 1930s, trade imports to Manchuria in China and to Japan declined. (PROSE: The Shadow of Weng-Chiang)

In World War II, after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941, (PROSE: Only Connect) the American forces were faced with the challenge of crossing the Pacific to reach Japan. Numerous islands occupied by thousands of Japanese soldiers willing to die for their Emperor stood in their path. Both American and Japanese fighter pilots encountered Light-beings in the war in the Pacific. (PROSE: Endgame) The ocean gave its name to this theatre of the conflict: the Pacific War. (COMIC: 4-Dimensional Vistas)

In the 1970s, the Third Doctor briefly materialised on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean while attempting to go to Bombay. (PROSE: Island of Death)

21st century[[edit] | [edit source]]

In 2011, Jack Harkness took in the view of the Pacific from Venice Beach in California. As he recalled, he had last seen it about 70 years prior. (TV: Escape to LA)

On 1 January 2019, the Dalek remains on Anuta Island were activated after those from the same Dalek were revived by ultraviolet light in Sheffield. (TV: Resolution)

In 2020, an intelligence agent was attacked by a Kasaavin on a flight bound to Tokyo above the Pacific Ocean. (TV: Spyfall)

By 2050, an alliance known as the Pacific Union was active. It was presumably based around the Pacific Ocean. (TV: Lost Library of Ukko)

In 2070, a hurricane in the Pacific was managed by the Moonbase. (TV: The Moonbase)
