30 St Mary Axe, often simply referred to as the Gherkin, was a building in London. History

Construction work on the tower was completed in 2004, including the fitting of over 24000 square metres of glass. It was 40-storeys high and stood at a height of 180 metres. When it was built, it was considered one of the tallest buildings in London, and had a 360-degree view over the city. On 25 December 2006, the glass windows of the Gherkin were shattered by a shockwave caused by the Sycorax ship entering the atmosphere. (TV: The Christmas Invasion)

The Tenth Doctor once encountered the Slitheen on top of the Gherkin and lost his sonic screwdriver. (COMIC: Hear No Evil)
