The Toymaker's legions: Difference between revisions

(The book does not quite say that the goblins are part of the legions, so much as riding the legions' slipstream. Either interpretation is possible. Corrected language to a more neutral form.)

(If this refers to the scene in the Sundays' kitchen after escaping the ship when Ruby asks "do they cause all accidents?", the novelisation toys with this idea, neither fully dismissing or accepting the possibility.)

History

After the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Doctors bested the Toymaker in a game of catch atop the London UNIT HQ in late 2023, the Toymaker ominously told them that his legions were coming after the Fourteenth Doctor banished him from existence as his prize. (TV: The Giggle [+]Loading...{"timestamp":"00:48:21","1":"The Giggle (TV story)"})

Early on in his life, the Fifteenth Doctor was aware he'd be facing a "whole pantheon of new enemies", but confidently believed they had "no idea what they['d] let themselves in for". (PROSE: "Heroes of Time" [+]Part of Whotopia: The Ultimate Guide to the Whoniverse, Loading...{"namedpart":"Heroes of Time","1":"Whotopia: The Ultimate Guide to the Whoniverse (reference book)"})

In December 2023, a group of Goblins who "bimble[d]" through time found a "chance of coincidence" surrounding Ruby Sunday and Lulubelle and thus began seeding bad luck into Ruby's life. After she and the Fifteenth Doctor saved Lulu from being fed to the Goblin King and their escape from the Goblin ship, (TV: The Church on Ruby Road [+]Loading...["The Church on Ruby Road (TV story)"]) the Doctor explained to Ruby that their presence was the "legacy" of the Toymaker who had entered the universe with "his legions", being another "force of nature" but of "a different nature", obeying their own rules in much the same way that (PROSE: The Church on Ruby Road [+]Loading...{"name":"TCoRR","page":"100","chaptnum":"Thirteen","1":"The Church on Ruby Road (novelisation)"}) the Toymaker obeyed the rules of play. (TV: The Giggle [+]Loading...["The Giggle (TV story)"]) The Goblins then went back in time and ate Ruby as a baby, creating a cracked timeline. However, the Doctor followed them and negated this timeline by impaling the King. After he killed the King, the entire Goblin ship seemed to fade from existence.
