Six Impossible Things Before Breakfast was the sixth short story in the Short Trips anthology Short Trips: A Day in the Life. It was written by Dan Abnett. It featured the Seventh Doctor, Ace and Hex.
Summary[[edit] | [edit source]]
Hex is woken by the absence of the usual dematerialisation sound of the TARDIS. In the console room, the Doctor explains that, although they've materialised, the TARDIS thinks they're still in flight and won't dematerialise. Ace, half-awake, enters carrying a bottle of milk, but it's spoiled and she spills it, so she and Hex decide to look for breakfast. The Doctor stays behind to fix the TARDIS.
Hex thinks they've landed in his time, 21st century London, though Ace thinks it's the 20th century, her time. They enjoy the feel of being home and the peace of what seems to be a Sunday morning, though Hex can hear a strange crackling noise that Ace can't hear.
In the TARDIS, the Doctor turns his back and his repairs are undone. As he tries again to fix it, he can't seem to figure out how to do so.
Ace notes the presence of a couple of London landmarks that can't both be present at the same time. They are suddenly aware of the lack of normal sounds and how the landmarks and objects don't seem very clear. Ace can now hear the crackling noise too, and they run for the TARDIS, away from some kind of predator that they can't see.
In the TARDIS, the Doctor also has heard the predator. Ace notes that this isn't the real TARDIS, and the Doctor suggests they look for the real console room inside the fake TARDIS. After they search a bit, while the predator gets closer, Ace smells rotten milk and uses that to find the real console room. They finally dematerialise and the Doctor makes a bad pun. Ace heads back to bed, but has to clean up the milk first.
