Our Flavours was a feature released on the BBC's Millingdale website on 8 April 2006 to coincide with series 2 of Doctor Who. It acted as the in-universe "Our Flavours" page for the Millingdale website.
Unlike some other pages on the site, Our Flavours saw 3 different versions of the page at different points in time, variably adding and removing content to tie-in with Cybus Spy and the Torchwood Mission Game, as well as the British Rocket Group site.
Summary[[edit] | [edit source]]
Millingdale state that they not only serve traditional flavours such as vanilla, chocolate, and sprout, but that they also provide several other flavours "for the more sophisticated palate". They then list their other flavours:
Golden Age Delight is described as "honeycomb pieces smothered in a rich chocolate and orange ice cream with just the tiniest hint of chilli".
Christmas Surprise is a "popular choice", being turkey ice cream with a "generous helping" of satsuma segments.
Despite its popularity, Christmas Surprise was apparently replaced by Henrik's Surprise in later versions of the website, stated to be "exclusive to Henrik & Son". It is described as a "sausage sorbet layered with caper cream, and a unique brulee of bacon toffee", apparently "kept crispy" by their secret ingredient, Gemini12.
Red Pit of Delight is created with cranberries, raspberries and tomatoes, and is described as a "devilishly delightful dessert".
Chalk and Cheese is seemingly created using chalk and cheese. The description says "they shouldn’t go together. But they do!".
Royal Turkish Delight is apparently one of their "initial top-sellers".
Death By Chocolate is described as a "gorgeous ice cream packed to the brim with butter, cocoa butter, dark chocolate, white chocolate, sugar, buttercream, honeycomb pieces, mint sauce, turkish delight, honey, treacle, cream, pecan nuts, milk chocolate chips, glace cherries, orange crispy bits and yeast extract".
Madame du Popadom is described as "a regal mix of champagne, mango chutney, cardamon and chilli-jellied snail", with spiced wafer.
Magpie Mayhem is made using "Britain’s forgotten fowl". It is described as a "meaty and surprising affair that will light up anyone’s dessert bowl".
Fish and Chips is described as "red herring sauce drizzled over potato ice cream", apparently a "right British treat!".
Lady of The Lake is described as "a single strawberry drowning in the finest blueberry ice cream", and was a special dessert commissioned to celebrate the Guinevere space mission, with a hyperlink present in the text leading to the British Rocket Group's website.
Silver Giant is described as "creamy vanilla ice cream jam-packed with dragees", and is best served in a tall glass in front of the television.
Welsh Rarebit is described as "mustard ice cream with cheesey croutons and a Worcestershire sauce", apparently their "unique version of the popular dish".
Later versions of the site list Ghost Glace as one of their flavours, being described as a "chilly chocolate sorbet".
Finally, Peas, Peas, Peas is described as a "delightful union of the tangiest lime ice cream and fresh garden peas".
Worldbuilding[[edit] | [edit source]]
- A quote from Danielle Millingdale says "...flavour you won't believe...".
- Dragees are described as "those little silver balls!".
- Millingdale's ice cream cones apparently feature their logo.
Notes[[edit] | [edit source]]
to be added
Continuity[[edit] | [edit source]]
- Millingdale was first introduced on the home page of the Millingdale site.
- This story tied-into the ARGs Cybus Spy and the Torchwood Mission Game.
- It also tied-into the British Rocket Group website's coverage of the Guinevere space mission, by extension referencing the events of The Christmas Invasion, although Guinevere One technically debuted in Mars.
- This page mentions some sorbets as being among the flavours provided by Millingdale. Disclaimer also makes such a claim.
