Hyde Park

Hyde Park was one of the Royal Parks of London.

Geography[[edit] | [edit source]]

Hyde Park was located near Kensington (PROSE: A Big Hand for the Doctor) and Paternoster Row. (PROSE: The Pernicious Plots of the Big Game Hunter)

History[[edit] | [edit source]]

In Vastra's home era, a Silurian city already existed where London would later be built. What would later become Hyde Park was considered "a bad part of town". However, a hibernation facility was built there. (GAME: Lost in Time)

In 1851, the Crystal Palace was constructed in Hyde Park to house the Great Exhibition. (COMIC: The Eagle of the Reich) The Eleventh Doctor, Amy, and Rory visited the palace on the night before its opening. (COMIC: Hypothetical Gentleman) The Eighth Doctor also took Charley and C'rizz to the Great Exhibition later that year. (AUDIO: Other Lives) The palace was later disassembled (COMIC: The Eagle of the Reich) and reconstructed in Sydenham in 1854. (COMIC: The Crystal Palace)

Victoria Waterfield once recalled that she "got sick" when she and her father went boating on the Serpentine in Hyde Park. (PROSE: Fury from the Deep)

In the 1890s, while Vastra was feeding the ducks at the Round Pond, she was shot at by trophy hunter Lord Falstaff. She escaped, using the trees in the park for cover, before hopping on a bus to Paternoster Row. (PROSE: The Pernicious Plots of the Big Game Hunter)

When the Twelfth Doctor's collection of vortex energy accidentally activated the reanimation unit of one of London's Silurian hibernation facilities, the Triad and a Tyrannosaurus rex reached the surface via an access point in Hyde Park and tried to spread a Silurian plague to exterminate the human population of London. After dealing with the rogue Silurians with the Doctor, Vastra took them back underground and activated the tunnel auto sealer so that they couldn't be awoken accidentally again. (GAME: Lost in Time)

In 1900, the First Doctor parked the TARDIS in Hyde Park. He later asked a hansom driver to take him to the Kensington Gardens side of Hyde Park. (PROSE: A Big Hand for the Doctor)

In 1980, the Fifth Doctor visited Hyde Park. (AUDIO: The Fires of Vulcan)

In late 2019, a telepathic quail made its nest in Hyde Park, causing unusual numbers of other quails to converge towards the Park. The matter was investigated by P.R.O.B.E.. (PROSE: Out of the Box)

In 2050, Hyde Park was destroyed by a tornado caused by an Aeolian. (TV: Aeolian)

In 2167, after the 2150s Dalek invasion of Earth ended, the Roboman Victor Chaplin was found wandering near Hyde Park. (AUDIO: After the Daleks)

Some time later, the site of Hyde Park was paved over and became a car park. (COMIC: The Garden Rebellion)

References[[edit] | [edit source]]

In November 1989, Heather Lake mentioned Hyde Park as one of the things she missed about London. (COMIC: The Broken Man)

When the Fourth Doctor arrived on the planet of the Sevateem, he was surprised to discover that he was not in Hyde Park. (TV: The Face of Evil)

When Tim Stevens stated to Jacqui McGee that he had to "get over to the Mayor's electric bike thing", Jacqui suggested that it would involve "city officials wobbling through Hyde Park on stabilisers" and beleived that she had something far more exciting for him. (AUDIO: Vanguard)

Alternate reality[[edit] | [edit source]]

In an alternate reality where all of history happened at once, Pterodactyls inhabited this reality's version of Hyde Park and chased people. A sign in the park read "PTERODACTYLS ARE VERMIN; DO NOT FEED." (TV: The Wedding of River Song)
