The '''Spiral Yssgaroth''' was a name given by ''[[The Book of the War]]'' to the [[universe]] from which the [[Yssgaroth]], a powerful force of darkness not bound by the structures and laws of the [[Great House]]s' [[Spiral Politic]], originated. During early [[Gallifreyan history]], the [[Time Lord]]s accidentally opened a gateway between [[N-Space|their universe]] and the Spiral Yssgaroth, allowing the [[Great Vampire]]s to swarm into the cosmos.  


This force existed on a higher plane and went undetected by most, although [[sensitive]]s were able to sense it to varying degrees. At synapses, the force could influence and even control sensitives, causing them to commit [[murder]] and granting them some supernatural powers such as [[astral projection]]. The two worlds were closest at [[perihelion]] in [[August]].
After they [[Eternal War|banished]] the Vampires back to their universe, the Yssgaroth continued to escape back into their universe to conquer it and get their revenge; their realm, connected to [[Earth]] at a number of weak points or "[[leprous house]]s". It was thought of as a '''reservoir of evil''', '''river of evil''' or '''reservoir of pain''' by [[Doctor]] [[Colin Dove]] and Director [[Giles]] prior to Giles learning the true nature of the realm.


On [[13 August]], [[1945]], the force possessed young [[Daniel O'Kane]] and had him murder [[Eustace O'Kane's wife|his mother]], [[Eustace O'Kane|father]] and [[Eustace O'Kane's daughters|sisters]]. Daniel was the most sensitive person known to Dr Dove until [[Peter Russell]]. Dr Dove, somewhat sensitive himself, wished to unleash the force in [[1994]] using Daniel and Russell at perihelion. The Spiral Yssgaroth was a name given by The Book of the War to the universe from which the Yssgaroth, a powerful force of darkness not bound by the structures and laws of the Great Houses' Spiral Politic, originated. During early Gallifreyan history, the Time Lords accidentally opened a gateway between their universe and the Spiral Yssgaroth, allowing the Great Vampires to swarm into the cosmos.

After they banished the Vampires back to their universe, the Yssgaroth continued to escape back into their universe to conquer it and get their revenge; their realm, connected to Earth at a number of weak points or "leprous houses". It was thought of as a reservoir of evil, river of evil or reservoir of pain by Doctor Colin Dove and Director Giles prior to Giles learning the true nature of the realm.

In the Council of Frogs' system for designating universe names, this universe was “Second”, following the Prime Universe.

Its highly ambiguous "reservoir of pain" from beyond the physical universe, and the evil force it contained, were only established as synonymous with the Yssgaroth and their universe in the 2021 short story anthology P.R.O.B.E.: Out of the Shadows.
