Eulalia were a species of sentient plant. They made men artificially fall in love with them, using the positive energy of this love as fuel for their travels between planets. They were unable to use men who were already in love (as they were unable to influence them) or men who had once been in love, but had that loved one die (as the negative energy they carried was bad for them). They were also able to use the energy of genuine love between other people as fuel. One group of Eulalia were found in a crashed ship in the 1920s by Birkett, who investigated them following their discovery. He brought them to the Fellows' club, where they were exploited by Nanny Lewis to capture the young men of London so that she could escape Earth. Following the intervention of the Ninth Doctor, Toby Entwhistle, and Phil, they killed Nanny Lewis in revenge. The Eulailia then freed all of the men they had captured as the love between Toby and Phil provided all of the energy they needed to continue on their way.
