Daryl Christofi was an amateur diver who ran a website, Daryl the Diver, in which he documented his most recent diving project involving the Elysium. He had an interest in Victoriana.

Daryl Christofi "started out" in the Merchant Navy, with his first diving experience being in the South China Seas. At this time, Daryl began updating his website, Daryl the Diver, to document his efforts, but he was distracted by the dives themselves, leaving the site in a state of construction; his first few attempts to reach the sunken Elysium weren't successful, although he manage to eventually locate the ship, photograph it, and enter it, salvaging some artefacts including pottery. When Daryl eventually did post on his website about his progress, he apologised for the state of the website, providing a bit of the history of the ship, as well as revealing that he had loaned out the artefacts he had recovered to a touring exhibition about the Elysium.
