Second Contact was the fifth short story in the Short Trips anthology Short Trips: Time Signature. It was written by Jonathan Clements. It featured the Eighth Doctor.
Summary[[edit] | [edit source]]
A group from the Micmac tribe, led by Sees Strangers, travels a long distance to trade with the Vikings. On the way, they meet the Doctor, who accompanies them as he wishes to bury the ashes of his good friend.
When they reach the Viking camp, Freydis is hostile to them but Thorfinn and his wife Gudrid cautiously welcome them. One of the Micmac, Says Things Twice, shows an interest in a dish belonging to Freydis. When Freydis accuses Says Things Twice of being a thief, a fight breaks out between the Micmac and the Vikings, during which three Micmac and Tyrkir of the Vikings are killed. The Doctor comforts Tyrkir as he dies, restoring some measure of happiness to the camp.
The Doctor warns Thorfinn that the main Micmac tribe will find the Vikings at some point in the future, and he encourages them to return to their original home in Greenland. Most of the Vikings accompany the Doctor, and en route he scatters the ashes of his friend Isaac.
