Notes[[edit] | [edit source]]
- Volume One featured the Eighth Doctor facing the Sontarans as the "new" monster, despite them being a classic series creation that debuted in The Time Warrior in 1973. This was justified by having the Sontarans in The Sontaran Ordeal being a clone batch from the era of the Last Great Time War. The front cover uses the 2008 design from the Sontarans' reintroduction in The Sontaran Stratagem and The Poison Sky in Series 4.
- Subsequent volumes of the range have the Eighth Doctor facing an enemy already faced by a previous Doctor in an earlier story of the same box set.
Other stories[[edit] | [edit source]]
Big Finish also released a number of stories in which a classic-era Doctor encounters a revived-era alien as part of other ranges. Although not part of Classic Doctors, New Monsters, they utilise the same concept.
- The Side of the Angels (part of Doom Coalition 4) features the Eighth Doctor alongside the Weeping Angels.
- Madquake (part of the Main Range) features the Fifth Doctor alongside the Raxacoricofallapatorians, specifically members of the Slitheen family.
- He Kills Me, He Kills Me Not (part of Time Lord Victorious) features the Eighth Doctor alongside Brian the Ood.
- Stone Cold (part of Angels and Demons in Series 12 of The Fourth Doctor Adventures) features the Fourth Doctor alongside the Weeping Angels. Producer David Richardson explained he was "feeling a bit cheeky" when he decided on this inclusion. (BFX: Stone Cold)
- Shadow of the Daleks 1 and Shadow of the Daleks 2 (part of the Main Range), features the Fifth Doctor alongside the Time War-era Daleks.
- The Eighth Doctor is also frequently pitted against the Time War-era Daleks throughout The Eighth Doctor: Time War, which is effectively on the dividing line between the classic and revived eras.
The same concept is also used in other media not produced by Big Finish, notably in anthology short stories like A Comedy of Terrors where the Second Doctor faces a Raxacoricofallapatorian, and Red Planet where the Fourth Doctor faces the Sycorax. Prior to Classic Doctors, New Monsters, the comic stories The Forgotten and A Rare Gem featured an encounter between the Judoon and the Fifth and Fourth Doctors respectively.
