Time Lord soldiers were Time Lords trained to serve as soldiers for Gallifrey and the Great Houses as part of the armed forces of Gallifrey.
War in Heaven[[edit] | [edit source]]
- Main article: House Military
The armed forces of the Great Houses in the War in Heaven were organised as the House Military. (PROSE: The Book of the War) As well as using lesser species as their agents, Time Lords themselves directly fought on Dronid. (PROSE: Alien Bodies) The forces included not just the old Capitol Guard but also new generations bred specifically for fighting. (PROSE: Crimes Against History) Nine of these House Military "Waves" were bred in the first 50 years of the War. (PROSE: The Book of the War)
Last Great Time War[[edit] | [edit source]]
Time Lord soldiers were often trained to fight and sent to the frontline of the Last Great Time War, despite the fact that Dalek gunsticks were usually equipped with regeneration inhibitors. (AUDIO: The Conscript) The Time Lords looked for ways to revive their dead troops so they could continue to fight, such as allying with the Technomancers, (AUDIO: Legion of the Lost) and applied bio-engineering to their soldiers, which made them see premonitions of their deaths. (PROSE: A Brief History of Time Lords)
Gallifreyan shock troops were specialised Gallifreyan troops. (AUDIO: The Rulers of the Universe) Among the equipment they possessed was a time pendant (AUDIO: Assets of War) which allowed troopers to stay precisely ten nanoseconds in time ahead of their opponents, which they used to avoid getting "mowed down" on ground assaults. Such a pendant was taken by the Eighth Doctor as a "souvenir", which he used to escape the Sanukuma. (AUDIO: The Rulers of the Universe) The 5th Gallifreyan Infantry was a Gallifreyan shock troop. (AUDIO: Assets of War)
On the last day of the Time War, a Time Lord soldier assisted a new recruit at Arcadia, Gallifrey's second city. The recruit was introduced to Hedigar, who boasted that Arcadia was the "safest place on Gallifrey", being protected by the sky trenches. However, it was while the two soldiers were scanning the skies of Arcadia that the Daleks broke through and attacked the city, with the recruit being the first to be exterminated. (TV: The Last Day) Carrying a gun and a bazooka, the soldier sent a Priority Omega message for the High Council reporting that Arcadia had fallen. There he saw the Doctor's TARDIS and was met by the War Doctor, who asked to borrow his gun. Taking the soldier's gun, the Doctor proceeded to blast the message "NO MORE" into a wall before flying his TARDIS into a squad of Daleks. A damaged Dalek remaining told the soldier to explain the meaning of those words, the soldier answered by using his bazooka to finish the Dalek off. (TV: The Day of the Doctor)
Post-war universe[[edit] | [edit source]]
Upon the Twelfth Doctor's return to Gallifrey, Gastron, who had served with the War Doctor at Skull Moon, inspected the Cloisters, reporting to the Eleventh General that they were active. He was then sent in a military vehicle to order the Doctor to accompany him to the Capitol. When the Doctor stood his ground, Rassilon ordered a firing squad, which included Gastron, to the Drylands to execute the Doctor. The General was aware that some of the soldiers had served with the Doctor, and the entire squad ultimately refused to shoot the Doctor, taking his side when he banished Rassilon from Gallifrey. Gastron later witnessed the regeneration of the General, who had been shot by the Doctor, and assisted the Twelfth General in pursuing the Doctor as he attempted to escape with Clara Oswald. (TV: Hell Bent)
