Annalise is named after [[John Leekley]]'s daughter, with characters named "Annalisse" appearing in several of his scripts. In ''[[Fathers and Brothers (unproduced TV story)|Fathers and Brothers]]'', based off of the [[Leekley Bible]], the Doctor's mother is revealed to have died in ancient [[Egypt]] serving as a Queen to the Doctor's father [[Cheops]]. A further iteration of this story, titled ''[[The Time of My Life (unproduced TV story)|The Time of My Life]]'', featured the Doctor's father marrying a second wife named [[Anne Joyce|Anne]].

Ulysses, an early Time Lord and Time Explorer, gave up his immortality to be with her. However, their hybrid son, whom they were raising on Earth, died his first death under tragic circumstances, and, after regenerating, he was sent to Gallifrey, raised as an orphan with no knowledge of his true parentage.
