Doctor Jen Komati was an Earth Empire scientist with degrees in microtronics, physics, and xenotechnology. She went down to Avalon to investigate the planet with Shannon, Vincent Monadno and Ivanov.
She told the First Doctor why the Earth Empire was interested in Avalon: they had discovered that a nearby nebula was caused by a weapon from the planet having fired on and destroyed a star centuries ago, and the Empire wanted the weapon.
When the First Doctor, Anni Glassfeather and Kildenny Odoyle were magically fighting Gramling to prevent his use of Merlin's Helm, she grabbed it and threw it to Ian Chesterton. Shannon shot and killed her for not giving it to him. (PROSE: The Sorcerer's Apprentice)
