Louise Alison Miller was the biological mother of Ruby Sunday. She left the new-born Ruby on the doorstep of the church at Ruby Road on Christmas Eve 2004, and would be reunited with her daughter in 2024.

Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

Louise leaves her child at Ruby Road (TV: The Church on Ruby Road [+]Loading...["The Church on Ruby Road (TV story)"])

Louise gave birth to Ruby when she was 15 years old. Ruby's father, Will Garnet, was never told about the pregnancy. (TV: Empire of Death [+]Loading...["Empire of Death (TV story)"]) She left her daughter after giving birth to her at approximately 2PM, leaving her baby on the doorstep of the church at Ruby Road on Christmas Eve 2004 before slipping away into the night, while the Fifteenth Doctor stopped the Goblin King and his Goblins from altering time and eating the baby before she could grow up to become Ruby Sunday. The Doctor saw the woman walking away from the church, but decided against confronting her. (TV: The Church on Ruby Road [+]Loading...["The Church on Ruby Road (TV story)"])

Louise later moved to Coventry at the age of eighteen, got a degree from university, and became a nurse. (TV: Empire of Death [+]Loading...["Empire of Death (TV story)"])

Legacy[[edit] | [edit source]]

As she grew up, Ruby came to terms with her abandonment, but still sought the truth behind her parents' identities, though she also accepted her adopted mother, Carla Sunday, as her parent, with the two having a strong and positive relationship. Though Carla was not against Ruby looking into her true parentage, she privately hoped her biological mother would never return, as Ruby was "all [her's]".

On 1 December 2023, Davina McCall hosted Ruby on a programme that attempted to find the families of "foundlings" so Ruby could finally find out about her parentage, but no trace of her mother's DNA could be found on the databases they searched. (TV: The Church on Ruby Road [+]Loading...["The Church on Ruby Road (TV story)"])

While on the Baby Station Beta, a conversation between the Doctor and Ruby manifested itself as a strong memory, and the Doctor visualised himself once more standing outside the church, watching as the mysterious woman walked away into the night. However, the Doctor's memory was altered of the event (TV: Space Babies [+]Loading...["Space Babies (TV story)"]) as history changed; (TV: The Legend of Ruby Sunday [+]Loading...["The Legend of Ruby Sunday (TV story)"]) Ruby's mother instead turned around and pointed (TV: Space Babies [+]Loading...["Space Babies (TV story)"]) at a lamppost with the sign for "Ruby Road" on it. (TV: The Legend of Ruby Sunday [+]Loading...["The Legend of Ruby Sunday (TV story)"]) He noted this oddity to Ruby. (TV: Space Babies [+]Loading...["Space Babies (TV story)"])

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

  • It was not made explicit in The Church on Ruby Road [+]Loading...["The Church on Ruby Road (TV story)"] if the woman who left baby Ruby at the church was her mother, but the novelisation [+]Loading...{"noital":"1","1":"The Church on Ruby Road (novelisation)","2":"the novelisation"} confirmed that the woman was indeed Ruby's biological mother. The identity of Louise Miller as Ruby's mother was confirmed in Empire of Death [+]Loading...["Empire of Death (TV story)"].
