Pokémon is a Japanese multimedia franchise released by The Pokémon Company, a joint venture of Nintendo, Creatures Inc. and Game Freak. It has taken the form of a series of video games and several television series and films, among other media.
The franchise is oriented around creatures known as Pokémon and their friendships and bonds with their trainers, with numerous criminal organisations attempting to harm the creatures or to reinvent their world in a grandiose way, usually necessitating the destruction of the current one. The series takes place in a number of different universes, divided typically by the medium of stories they're depicted in.

In the video, a father gives a tablet to his two children sitting in the back of a car, which has footage of Captain Pikachu launching a Thunder Punch attack: the sparks come out of the screen and turn the kids into anime-style characters. The animation style doesn't entirely recreate the style seen in Horizons, nor do any Pokémon even appear in the segment.
The Pokémon franchise, particularly the games, were advertised in Doctor Who Adventures.

Billie Piper recorded a song for the western release of Pokémon: The First Movie, "Makin' My Way (Any Way That I Can)". Though the song was not used in the movie itself, it appeared on its official soundtrack album. Britney Spears, who appeared as herself in Looking for Pudsey, also contributed the song, "Soda Pop", to the soundtrack.
A live-action Pokémon film, titled Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, was released in 2019. The film featured Bill Nighy, Josette Simon, and Max Fincham.
Publishers[[edit] | [edit source]]
The Pokémon Trading Card Game was, until 2003, originally published outside of Asia by Wizards of the Coast.
The first three Pokémon anime movies - Pokémon: The First Movie, Pokémon: The Movie 2000, and Pokémon 3: The Movie - were distributed theatrically by Warner Bros. outside of Asia, as was the aforementioned live-action film.
The twentieth and twenty-first anime films - Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! and Pokémon the Movie: The Power of Us - were distributed theatrically outside Asia by Fathom Events.
Television channels[[edit] | [edit source]]
In the UK, ITV and its family of channels was the initial terrestrial television home of the Pokémon anime series, beginning from its premiere in the late 90s and until the late 2010s, at which point the rights were handed over to the BBC: the series currently broadcasts on CBBC and BBC iPlayer, and have also been broadcast as part of Saturday Mash-Up!
The anime has also been broadcast on Cartoon Network and Disney XD in various regions.
