Tower Bridge

Tower Bridge was a London bridge, over which people could cross the River Thames. The road which crossed the bridge was called Tower Bridge Road. While its northern landfall was located just beyond the eastern wall of the Tower of London, (TV: The Lie of the Land) its southern landfall was located in the London Borough of Southwark.[nb 1]

A map showing the location of Tower Bridge. (TV: The Lie of the Land)

History[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Fifth Doctor's TARDIS materialised near the bridge in 1984. (TV: Resurrection of the Daleks)

The Slitheen craft narrowly missed hitting Tower Bridge on 6 March 2006. (TV: Aliens of London) A picture of it passing the bridge was posted on Who is Doctor Who? later that day. (PROSE: Alien landing confirmed)

In the 21st century, the Shard was located nearby. (TV: Children of Earth: Day Three)

In 2014, Jack Odwards was swallowed by a Gomagog wormhole underneath Tower Bridge, while swimming the River Thames for charity. (AUDIO: Kronos Vad's History of Earth (Vol. 36,379))

Tower Bridge was seen on a map of London used during the Monk invasion of the late 2010s. (TV: The Lie of the Land)

In 2023, on a Tuesday, a rift appeared on Tower Bridge. It allowed through an orb of crackling energy which turned out to contain a time-shifted H. P. Lovecraft. Before it revealed its passenger, however, the orb damaged the concrete and several nearby cars, causing multiple casualties. As a result, police and MI5 forces closed the Bridge to the public and called in P.R.O.B.E. to resolve the situation. After P.R.O.B.E. helped send Lovecraft safely back through the rift even though he'd lost the protection of the orb, the portal collapsed in on itself. (AUDIO: Guardian At The Gate)

At some point after 2023, (TV: The Star Beast [+]Loading...["The Star Beast (TV story)"]) the Fifteenth Doctor welcomed an individual into the TARDIS in London, with Tower Bridge visible as part of London's skyline. Other realities[[edit] | [edit source]]

Pete's World[[edit] | [edit source]]

A building which resembled Tower Bridge from the Doctor's universe existed (TV: Rise of the Cybermen) in Pete's World. (TV: Doomsday) It was in a similar location to its counterpart. (TV: Rise of the Cybermen)

The Trickster's World[[edit] | [edit source]]

In this reality, while the rest of London had become a blasted wasteland, Tower Bridge appeared to still be standing. (TV: The Temptation of Sarah Jane Smith)

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

VFX shots of the CyberKing in London, in 2008's The Next Doctor, had to be fixed by The Mill after producer Susie Liggat noticed that 1851 London contained the Tower Bridge, which wouldn't be built for another four or so decades.[1]

Footnotes[[edit] | [edit source]]

Notes[[edit] | [edit source]]

  1. The location of City and Southwark on Mr Smith's map. (TV: Revenge of the Slitheen)
The map in The Lie of the Land shows the north end of Tower Bridge as being either within or close to the east of the City of London. When viewed in conjunction with the map of London boroughs seen in Revenge of the Slitheen, this would definitively place the southern end of Tower Bridge in Southwark.
