The Selachians were the Ockoran soldiers in the Selachian Empire. They had been specially modified for war, having their lower halves replaced with legs and being installed in an armoured shell. (PROSE: The Final Sanction)

Selachians looked partly humanoid, with a humanoid upper half and a fish-like tail. They had bright pink skin, black eyes, thin mouths, no noses and white wavy crests instead of hair. Their upper body was lightly built, with thin arms with three webbed fingers. Despite their weak appearance, Selachians were dangerous fighters and much stronger than they looked. Their lower half was like a fish, with a scaly tail and fins. Selachians had three gills down the side of their body and were unable to survive out of the water, suffocating in minutes. Male Selachians could be identified by their lighter coloured crests, as well as differently shaped gills. Selachians had a long lifespan, over hundreds of years.
Selachians had violet blood. (PROSE: The One That Got Away)

Selachians had violet-coloured blood. Oddly enough, the Selachians had a slight genetic resemblance to the Dolphins of Earth, as well as to the Kalarians of Kalaya. (PDA: The Final Sanction)

Selachians lived in cities carved out of the rocks at the bottom of the sea. There were openings all around the buildings for the Selachians to swim into. Selachian's language was made up of singing and though it was hard to translate, it was considered to be very melodic.
The Ockorans adopted the name "Selachians" after studying other worlds and learning that sharks were the most commonly feared marine creatures amongst humans. (PROSE: The Murder Game) Selachians had a strong sense of pride and would refuse to show weakness or fear. They would rather die than give into their enemies. Conversely, their weaponry, armour and name was specifically chosen to cause fear in the enemy. Selachians hierarchy was shown by stripes painted onto their battlesuits, going from top-left to bottom-right. The Supreme Leader's suit had black stripe edged with red, while the next level down had blue stripes. (PROSE: The Final Sanction)

The Selachians believed in a being called the Great Mother, a being who was the mother to the Selachians and who guided them through the world. They also believed that the land (called the Second World) was where the wicked souls went and the inhabitant of the land were jealous of the Selachians. Legends state that the Great Mother was killed trying to protect the Selachians from the Kalarians, which led to an intense hatred of all air-breathers.

The most recognisable technology used by the Selachians was the Selachian battlesuits. These battlesuits were large, bulky things that gave the Selachians the appearance of humanoids. Selachians had to have studs implanted into their nervous system and have their tails removed in order for them to use the battlesuits. They had plasma weapons attached to their arms, which were built for fear rather than power (though it was still a dangerous weapon). Their helmets were shaped and painted to look like sharks in order to intimidate their enemies. Later battlesuits were equipped with nanites to repair damage and to counteract the nanites of the Terran Security Forces. (PDA: The Final Sanction)
The Ockorans eventually developed armour that allowed them to breathe on land, and emerged from the oceans during a culling festival and took their revenge on the Kalarians. Their homeworld was cordoned off and the Ockorans were eventually forgotten. (PROSE: The Murder Game) The Ockorans developed space travel and left Ockora. In order to take their revenge on the Kalarians, they followed them to their homeworld of Kalaya and conquered the planet within the six months. They then conquered three more neighbouring worlds within a year. The Selachians then formed the Selachian Empire, and soon became a major power on the galactic markets. (PROSE: The Final Sanction)

The Selachians were one of the few aquatic races who evolved to have Level Two technology. (PDA: The Murder Game)
The Eighth Doctor said that Selachians often tried to sell weapons to less advanced planets, much like 21st century Earth. (PROSE: Interference - Book One)

They had thinker-weapons comparable to the organic ships of the Zygons and the Faction Paradox's shrine. (EDA: Alien Bodies)
In 2011, within the Cheviot Hills site of the Vault, there was the corpse of a Selachian in the cold storage. (PROSE: A Worthy Successor)

Though the Selachians didn't naturally choose to use advanced technology, after the actions of the Kalarians they used the the technology of many other races. They also learned from their battles. Selachians commonly used organic technology. (PDA: The Final Sanction) They were known for their advanced technology and the Sixth Doctor believed that their weaponry was "phenomenal". (MA: Killing Ground)
In 2020, Archie MacTavish had Alinquos smuggle a Selachian, amongst other aliens, into London to act as a diversion for his plans at perihelion. (PROSE: Preternatural Nights)

Selachian ships were black, tube-like structures with three anti-gravity discs on the underside. Selachian ships were flooded and the engines would only work underwater. (MA: Killing Ground)
In an alternative timeline, the Selachians attacked Moonbase in 2044, using technology from a century in the future provided by that timeline's version of the Seventh Doctor. (AUDIO: The Architects of History)

Selachian transports looked like armadillos with tank-treads. They were organically based and responded to telepathic commands from Selachians. They could spit nerve gas and, when the Terran Security Forces counteracted that, acid.
In 2054, the Selachians made contact with humans and sold them weapons. In 2069, they were featured in the Eye-Spy Book of Alien Monsters, which was handed out to UNISYC personnel as potential threats. (PROSE: Alien Bodies)

Selachians also had a wide variety of technology that was used during the war with the Terran Security Forces. They used special spores underwater that would burn when exposed to air. Selachians also used the Cloak, which could blind and capture enemies. They left organic weapons on Kalaya that would activate once they left and would attack the nervous systems of any surviving humans. Selachians made a tough rope out of kelp. (PDA: The Final Sanction) They also used thermosystron bombs. (EDA: Alien Bodies)

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

A short story featuring the Selachians, and advertised as the first release in a The Selachians series, was released Cacteraldi Publishing in January 2017 under the title of The Concept of War. It was written by Faisal Martinez.[1]

However, the publication has yet to be publicly acknowledged by Lyons or any other reliable reference source, and Cacteraldi Publishing are not known to have any online presence. In the absence of any evidence that this release was approved by Steve Lyons (including in the book itself, which only gives "thanks" to Lyons but does not strictly speaking allege the existence of a commercial agreement), this Wiki has elected not to grant coverage to The Concept of War unless further evidence surfaces.
