The Saxons were a human ethnic group who settled in 5th century England. They lived in villages ruled by village elders and village councils, which were in turn ruled by kings. Saxons considered monasteries to be places of healing.

In approximately the 8th century, the Fourth Doctor and Sarah Jane Smith helped the Saxons defeat a Viking invasion. (COMIC: Woden's Warriors)

In 1066, after defeating a Viking raid, the Saxons fought William the Conqueror in the Battle of Hastings and were defeated. The Monk attempted to alter the outcome of this battle, but was stopped by the First Doctor. (TV: The Time Meddler)
