On 30 January 1649, King Charles I of England, Scotland, France and Ireland was executed in front of a large crowd. Oliver Cromwell, Charles' main political enemy, was amongst the onlookers. (PROSE: The Roundheads)

In the unproduced Doctor Who movie, Doctor Who Meets Scratchman, it is mentioned that the Doctor was seen at the execution of Charles I.
