The Tabard Inn was located in London. The First Doctor, Ian Chesterton, Vicki Pallister, Isabella and Geoffrey Chaucer went there looking for Barbara Wright and learnt that she had been reciting The Canterbury Tales to audiences. These performances had improves the inn's trade. Sir Robert de Wensley attempted to turn the crowd against Chaucer but they cheered him instead and lifted the Doctor onto their shoulders and paraded him around. (AUDIO: The Doctor's Tale)
