*A poster on Gallifrey Base claimed that RTD told him that the story would consist of '''Nightmare Reigns''' or '''The Nightmare Child''' and The End of Time, but this has yet to have been confirmed.
*The title The End of Time, as noted above, has also not been officially confirmed by the BBC. There is precedent for a tagline being mistakenly interpreted as a title: when "The Return of the Cybermen" was used on the initial trailer for ''[[The Next Doctor]]''. Unless Davies or the BBC makes an earlier confirmation, it is assumed the title of at least part 1 will be confirmed at the end of ''The Waters of Mars.''

Template:Pre-broadcast spoiler

Note: The title used for this article comes from the tagline used on the first teaser trailer unveiled at the San Diego ComicCon on 26th July 2009. It has not yet been confirmed by the BBC. As such, it is subject to change as the broadcast date approaches.

A two-part Doctor Who special will be broadcast during the 2009–2010 Christmas season. This will be the last story for David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor prior to the character's regeneration into his eleventh incarnation, who will be played by Matt Smith. It will also be the last Doctor Who story written by Russell T Davies, who shepherded the series' return to British television in 2005 and has been the series' executive producer and chief writer since. Davies will be succeeded as executive producer and showrunner by Steven Moffat.

References

  • The name of Jessica Hynes' character, Verity Newman, may be a reference to Verity Lambert and Sydney Newman. This is the second time the revived series has honoured the two people who are considered among the primary creators of Doctor Who; a similar reference occurred in Human Nature when the Doctor, under his human guise, says his parents were named Verity and Sydney.

Trailers

A teaser trailer was shown at Comic-Con 2009. The voiceover is provided by Timothy Dalton.

"It is said that in the final days of planet Earth, everyone had bad dreams".

An unknown person laughs after this.

We then see multiple clips, including those of the Tenth Doctor, what may be a crazed Ood, Donna Noble, Wilfred Mott, Sylvia Noble and a unknown man, David Harewood as an unknown character (possibly called Joshua Naismith), and a hooded man. There is a rumor, that one of the unknown men (shown only the eyes and nose before the Ood) is Christopher Eccleston, the Ninth Doctor

The mood is very dark. A female voice says "He returns". The voice belongs to Lucy Saxon. Then the Master is shown, with a dyed, blonde hair. He says, "My name is the Master". The tag line at the end of the trailer is "The End of Time", "Christmas 2009".
