Peter Bowles (born 16 October 1936[1]) played Lionel Carson in The Sarah Jane Adventures television story The Man Who Never Was. He is best known for playing Richard DeVere in To the Manor Born and Donald Fairchild in Executive Stress. In the latter, he took over the part from Geoffrey Palmer.

Other well known roles include: Glover in Only When I Laugh; Howard Booth in The Bounder; Major Sinclair Yeates in The Irish R.M.; Neville Lytton in Lytton's Diary; and Guthrie Featherstone in Rumpole of the Bailey. He also had guests appearances in episodes of The Avengers, The Saint, Danger Man, The Prisoner, The Persuaders! and I, Claudius.
