Bernice ("Benny") Surprise Summerfield was a 26th century archaeologist, a companion of the the Doctor and, later, associate of Irving Braxiatel, her employer.

Biography
Early life
Benny was born to Claire and Issac Summerfield. Whe lived with her mother until the Daleks attacked their colony, Bernice's mother returned to retrieve a toy for Bernice. At this point, her mother saw her mother killed by the Daleks killed her.
Her father was missing in action, presumed dead whilst fighting the Daleks on the battleship Tisiphone in 2543. (NA: Return of the Living Dad)
Bernice was put into a military academy for some years, but she escaped and lived in the woods, using the training they had given her to survive, she became some what of a guru to the other young women there. She was betrayed by a boy.
