A resident of Little Hodcombe was among those who took the role of a trooper during Sir George Hutchinson's war games in 1984.
The trooper captured Vislor Turlough after he, the Fifth Doctor and Tegan Jovanka escaped from Ben Wolsey's farmhouse and presented him to Sir George, who had the trooper imprison him with Andrew Verney. After the burning of the Queen of the May was ruined by the Doctor, Wolsey and Will Chandler, Sir George sent the trooper and Joseph Willow after them.
Following the group to the church, the trooper tried and failed to break into the TARDIS and both he and Willow were knocked unconscious by Turlough and Verney. The trooper was the first to regain consciousness and went after his targets, but he was killed by sword-wielding psychic projections created by the Malus.
