Leadworth is an English village in the British Midlands and home to Amelia Pond and Rory Williams.
Overview
Real World
Amy had lived there for most of her life after she moved there from Scotland. Leadworth had no airport and no nuclear power station, not even a little one. Leadworth had a Post Office, a Parish Church, a hospital, a Fire Station, a village green with a duckless duck pond and a public phone box. It is half an hour by car from the nearest city, Gloucester which is to the South.
In Easter of 1996, a mysterious crack in time opened in Leadworth, linking it to a prison ship and allowing a shape-changing alien, Prisoner Zero, to escape into the small village.
In 2008, the village became victim to a small-scale invasion by the Atraxi looking for Prisoner Zero. The Eleventh Doctor later defeated Prisoner Zero and ordered that the Atraxi leave.(DW: The Eleventh Hour)
In an alternate timeline created by Amy's mother and father being erased from existence, Amy had moved to Leadworth with her Aunt Sharon sometime prior to Easter 1996. When the timeline was repaired and Amy's parents restored, Amy had still moved to Leadworth as a young girl, but with her parents instead of Sharon. (DW: The Big Bang)
- Whether or not Sharon lives in Leadworth in the restored timeline remains unknown.
Dream World
In a dream version of Leadworth created by the Dream Lord, by 2015, Leadworth had expanded into (or included) Upper Leadworth, an area home to many pensioners and 'slightly upmarket' according to Rory Williams (DW: Amy's Choice).
Known residents
- Amy Pond
- Rory Williams
- Sharon (alternate timeline)
- Augustus Pond
- Tabetha Pond
- Dr. Ramsden
- Mr. Henderson
- Mrs. Angelo
- Jeff Angelo
- Mrs Poggit (possibly fictional)
- Mrs Hamil (possibly fictional)
Behind the scenes
- Leadworth scenes are actually filmed at Llandaff in Cardiff, about 1/2 mile away from the main BBC Wales building. However, the Upper Leadworth scenes in Amy's Choice were filmed in the South East Wales village of Skenfrith. The name is an anagram of "Late Dr. Who" (or "Dr. Who Tale"), though it's unknown if this was intentional.
- During filming of DW: The Eleventh Hour, Steven Moffat described Leadworth as "basically Trumpton." [1]
