1066 was the year in which the Battle of Hastings was fought in England. It gave the Normans,under William the Conqueror control over England, which had previously been ruled by Harold Godwinson.
The Monk unsuccessfully tried to change the outcome so the the Saxons were victorious. He tried to thwart a Viking invasion in the north. He was stopped by the First Doctor, Steven and Vicki. (DW: The Time Meddler)
