Wimpy Bar

The Wimpy Bar was an American-style restaurant on High Street in Shoreditch that served hamburgers. The name came from a character in the cartoon Popeye. As Susan Foreman described it:

Everything inside was brightly-coloured plastic, including the waitresses' uniforms, the tomato-shaped ketchup squeeze-bulbs and the squares of cheese melted onto the patties.Susan Foreman [Time and Relative (novel) [src]]

When the Cold began their attack on humanity on 2 April 1963, Susan, Gillian Roberts, John Brent, Malcolm, Zack Henderson, Dolly and a policeman all took cover in the Wimpy Bar, as did the restaurant's owners, Henry Haigh and his wife. They lived on hamburger buns with ketchup, frozen burgers being the next option.

When the snow storm did not let up, Susan, Gillian and John left for 76 Totter's Lane, where they hoped the First Doctor might help them. Zack came with them. (PROSE: Time and Relative)
