The pyro-flame was an alternative manipulator arm and flamethrower used by the Daleks. These were small cylindrical pieces at the end of the arm which shot a stream of fire to clear swaths of forest. (TV: The Daleks' Master Plan)
Variants
Battle Daleks of the New Dalek Paradigm used flamethrowers, which they referred to as flame guns, to melt through ice when searching for "the Abomination". The ends resembled the eyestalks of Progenitor Daleks. (COMIC: The Only Good Dalek)
Bronze Daleks in the World War I used flamethrowers to clear forests to pursue the Eleventh Doctor and his companions, the flames coming out of their suction cups. (COMIC: The Dalek Project)
Behind the scenes
- The Daleks in Dr. Who and the Daleks (the 1965 Peter Cushing feature film) were originally supposed to have flamethrowers as their main weapons, replacing the futuristic gunsticks of their televised counterparts. This was eventually replaced with gas weapons, but a flame-spouting gunstick is still prominently visible on the Black Dalek in one of the early posters for the film.
