Dalek (Unbound Universe)

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

In the Unbound Universe, the Daleks were created by Davros during a war between the Kaleds and the Thals on Skaro, provoked by the Quatch.

History[[edit] | edit source]

Creation[[edit] | edit source]

The Quatch, an ethereal species from another dimension, possessed an empire which inhabited the same region of space as Skaro did in the Unbound Universe. In an attempt to destroy Skaro and access the vast reservoir of dimensional energy at the planet's core, the Quatch provoked a war between Skaro's two dominant species, the Kaleds and the Thals. This war was ultimately ended by Davros when he created the Daleks. (AUDIO: Masters of War)

However, in stark contrast to the Daleks created by his N-Space counterpart, (TV: Genesis of the Daleks et al) Davros created two types of Dalek; while one group were intensely xenophobic and desired the destruction of all non-Dalek life, the other group of Daleks were programmed with a warped sense of protectiveness, desiring to safeguard the lifeforms of the universe by conquering and controlling their worlds. The xenophobic Daleks abandoned Davros after being created, and began forging an empire with the aim of destroying all non-Dalek life; they were referred to as "the Renegades" by the other group of Daleks, who instead desired to locate Davros after he abandoned Skaro, disappointed by his creations for not achieving what he perceived to be their full potential.

Initial encounters with the Doctor[[edit] | edit source]

The Doctor of this universe travelled to Skaro sometime after the end of the Kaled-Thal war, and stopped a group of Daleks from destroying the surviving Thals in what became known as the Great Siege. As a result of this encounter, the Doctor became a figure of legend amongst the Daleks and the Thals over several centuries.

On Earth in the 20th century, the Doctor and Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart fought the "Renegade" Daleks; Alistair would later recall losing forty-three men in a battle against the Daleks.

Return to Skaro[[edit] | edit source]

Centuries after the Doctor liberated the Thals from the Daleks, Skaro had once again fallen under Dalek control, with overall leadership being owned by the Black Dalek, and the Daleks loyal to Davros ruled over the Thals, having discovered that the Quatch intended to launch an invasion of Skaro. The Daleks' rule was strict; they rationed food for the Thals, required them to provide proof of identity, enforced curfews and forced Thals to live in designated groups. Furthermore, the Daleks frequently broadcast propaganda programmes depicting Davros preaching lessons to the Daleks about their history and purpose. In addition, the Daleks began an operation to discreetly convert Thals into Daleks so that they could effectively fight the Quatch. However, Thal freedom fighter groups formed as a result of the Daleks' strict rule; when the Doctor and Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart travelled to Skaro together, they worked with Gillen and Nadel to start a revolution against the Daleks.

The Doctor successfully trapped a Dalek and hijacked its programming so that it believed itself to be Davros. The Dalek then broadcast to the entirety of Skaro, claiming to be Davros. In response, the Black Dalek ordered the Dalek to be destroyed, but this triggered a divide between the Daleks; some sided with the Black Dalek, whilst others did not want to destroy what could potentially be the Daleks' creator.

While the resultant civil conflict appeared to liberate the Thals, the reprogrammed Dalek revealed to the Doctor the reason for why the Daleks had returned to Skaro, and that by starting a revolution, Skaro would not be ready for the imminent Quatch invasion. Shortly afterwards, the Quatch arrived and commenced their invasion with the assistance of Davros, who had sided with the Quatch after abandoning Skaro.

Defeating the Quatch[[edit] | edit source]

To defeat the Quatch, the Daleks, after much persuasion from the Doctor, allied with the Time Lord and the Thals, and launched an attack on the Quatch mothership. Onboard, the Doctor found Davros and the Black Dalek, and revealed to Davros the Quatch's role in starting the war that led to the creation of the Daleks. In an act of revenge, Davros triggered a failsafe system in the technology that allowed the Quatch to manifest outside of their home dimension, forcefully sending the Quatch back to their home dimension, before destroying the Quatch mothership shortly after the Doctor left.

In the immediate aftermath of the Quatch invasion, Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart chose to remain on Skaro to assist in attempts to establish peace between the Thals and the Daleks. (AUDIO: Masters of War)
