The Mechanoid City was a city built and inhabited by Mechanoids on the planet Mechanus. The city was constructed on metal stilts while connected to the ground thanks to a lift hidden inside a cave, with its levels being able to elevate and descend as needed. It was the capital of the Mechanoid Empire.
History
The Mechanoids began their existence as robots built by the Earth Empire. They were sent to Mechanus to erect a city for future human colonists. However the Human-Draconian War, along with the Second and Third Dalek Wars, ended the Empire's expansionist phase and the colonists never arrived, leading to the Mechanoids claiming the city for themselves and developing their own society. When Steven Taylor crashed on the planet, the Mechanoids captured him and held him prisoner in the city. Two years later, the First Doctor and his companions arrived on Mechanus and were also taken to the city, where they met Steven. The pursuing Daleks entered the city and attacked the Mechanoids. This encounter sparked a bitter rivalry between the Mechanoids and the Daleks eventually leading to all out war between the two races. (PROSE: Dalek: The Astounding Untold History of the Greatest Enemies of the Universe) The conflict was only halted when Robot 2K arrived at the Mechanoid City and tricked its inhabitants into believing that the Daleks had saved Mechanus from Skardal. After the Dalek Restoration Empire had earned the ire of an entity, they sought to pit it against the Mechanoid Empire. (WC: Day of Reckoning) To accomplish this, the Emperor of the Restoration, accompanied by the Dalek Prime Strategist and a few Silver Daleks, came to the city and claimed to want the Mechanoids' aid, bringing the Entity to Mechanus. After several Mechanoids had fallen to the Entity, the Mechanoid Queen left the Dalek Emperor to fend for himself. As the Emperor futilely fought against the Entity, the Prime Strategist and Mechanoid 2150 found a way to banish back to its original dimension, saving the city. Furious at being deceived, the Queen ordered the Emperor and the Prime Strategist out of the city and off her planet, swearing vengeance. (WC: The Deadly Ally)
Though the Daleks had banished the Queen and her entourage to the Entity's dimension, (WC: Day of Reckoning) the Mechanoids lived on, returning to repopulate their city. The Mechanoid City would later destroyed when the Daleks, led by a Black Dalek, used an atom divider to destroy its legs, the resulting explosion toppling it. (COMIC: The World That Waits)
