William Jovanka, also known as Bill, was the father of Tegan Jovanka.

Biography

Bill owned a cattle (AUDIO: Psychodrome) and sheep farm in Australia, near Toowoomba. (AUDIO: The Butcher of Brisbane) Tegan described it as being "about as far away from civilisation as you can get". (AUDIO: Psychodrome) He also owned a company that supplied animal feed. (AUDIO: The Gathering)

He always used to say that "if" was the most powerful word in the English language. (TV: Castrovalva; AUDIO: Psychodrome) He let Tegan drive a tractor around his sheep farm when she was ten (PROSE: Logopolis) and later let her fly his Cessna. (PROSE: Castrovalva)

William was married to Joy, Tegan's mother. (PROSE: Divided Loyalties) When Kamelion tapped into Tegan's memories, he was overwhelmed by childhood memories of Tegan's parents and Aunt Vanessa, as well as the Fifth Doctor's memories of Gallifrey. (PROSE: Qualia) Joy and Tegan moved away after Bill had an affair with a twenty-year-old typist and later tracked down Tegan and sent her to live with Vanessa after she ran away from her mother's. (PROSE: The King of Terror)

According to one account, he died of cancer in 1981 after having to give up running of his farm to his brother-in-law, Richard Frazer. (PROSE: Divided Loyalties) According to another, he was alive as of 1987 when he was hospitalised by a snake bite, reviving Tegan's fears of the Mara. (PROSE: Encounter on Burnt Snake Flat) By 2006, Tegan had inherited his animal feed company. (AUDIO: The Gathering)
